Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit Secures Growth in AI Era

On October 15, 2026, the Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit took place successfully as part of the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026. The event revolved around the theme of 'Security and Resilience: The Key to Operator's Smart Growth.' During the summit, GSMA Intelligence released a new white paper focusing on cybersecurity, emphasizing the need for operators worldwide to construct secure and resilient network foundations while integrating AI to navigate monetization models effectively. This initiative aims to mitigate the emerging security risks associated with AI's rapid evolution.

Key representatives from the ITU-T SG13 group and AV-TEST shared insights regarding the evolving threat landscape brought about by the rise of AI. They pointed out that AI has not only accelerated cyberattacks but also expanded their scope, fundamentally altering the traditional balance between offense and defense. As a result, security and resilience must be prioritized strategically, integrated into networking architectures from the design phase onward.

The white paper, titled 'A Target Architecture for Telecoms Cybersecurity,' highlighted two essential pillars critical for modern telecommunication networks. The first pillar is Native Security, which states that security must be inherent in network components from their design, production, deployment, and operation phases. The second pillar, Defense in Depth, provides a multilayered protection strategy segmented by domain to combat complex and prolonged threats. Furthermore, the paper raised concerns about the threat of quantum computer decryption, warning that attackers are already collecting encrypted data to decrypt later. Consequently, operators need to adopt new cryptographic algorithms and cybersecurity practices that resist potential future quantum attacks.

In response to these challenges, ITU-T SG13 and the WBBA alliance initiated the 'Build Resilient, Secure IP Networks Together' initiative, calling on operators globally to enhance the security and resilience of their networks. This collaboration ensures that service reliability and continuity remain strong amid the evolving AI landscape.

Leon Wang, President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, emphasized during the summit that AI has transformed from a tool for improving efficiency to a driving force for network monetization. He remarked that sustainable growth necessitates a robust and secure foundation. John Cai, Vice President at Huawei, subsequently elaborated on the enhanced Huawei NG WAN solution, designed to address these contemporary challenges.

Leading figures from the world’s top operators shared their strategic approaches and innovative measures regarding network security, resilience, and autonomous networking. Award presentations constituted an exciting part of the summit, where the President of the IPv6 Forum recognized outstanding operators. Among the commendations was the title 'Pioneer of National Network Resilience Policy,' awarded to Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) for its exceptional efforts in building resilient and secure IP networks and advancing children's online safety initiatives. These awards further solidified the industry's consensus around ensuring service continuity through security and resilience, thus supporting business growth driven by intelligent networks.

The success of the summit not only paves a clear path for future developments in network security in the AI era but also signals that global telecommunication networks are swiftly entering a new intelligent era characterized by high quality, security, and resilience.
