Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit: A Step Towards Resilient Networks in the AI Era

Success of the Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit

The Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit was successfully held during the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026, showcasing the importance of secure and resilient IP networks as a foundation for new growth in the AI era. Under the theme "Security and Resilience for Networks, Smart New Growth for Carriers," the summit served as a global platform for discussing the evolving landscape of cybersecurity.

One of the significant highlights of the summit was the unveiling of GSMA Intelligence's recently published white paper focused on cybersecurity. This white paper aims to address the urgent need for telecommunications providers to strengthen their networks against growing threats, especially as artificial intelligence reshapes the landscape of cybersecurity.

Representatives from ITU-T SG13 and AV-TEST shared valuable insights into how the AI revolution is affecting security measures, emphasizing that AI has accelerated attack methods and changed the balance between attackers and defenders in cybersecurity. There is a critical need for safety and resilience in network architecture to combat these sophisticated threats.

The white paper detailed two essential components for modern telecommunications networks: Native Security and In-depth Defense. Native Security refers to embedding security from the initial design phase through to the implementation and management of network elements. On the other hand, In-depth Defense introduces multi-layered domain-based protection against complex threats, offering a robust strategy to safeguard networks.

Furthermore, the white paper raised alarms about the impending deciphering threats posed by quantum computing. It noted that malicious actors are collecting encrypted data for future decryption, necessitating the adoption of new cryptographic algorithms that withstand quantum attacks. This foresight encourages network providers to remain proactive amidst an evolving threat landscape.

In response to the summit’s discussions, ITU-T SG13 and WBBA launched the initiative titled "Build Resilient, Secure IP Networks Together." This initiative calls upon global telecom providers to enhance their network security and resilience to ensure high reliability and continuity of services in the face of AI's rapid development.

Leon Wang, president of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, commented on the evolving role of AI, stating that it has transitioned from merely a tool for efficiency improvement to a revenue-generating engine for networks. He stressed that ongoing growth relies on establishing a secure and resilient foundation.

John Cai, Huawei's vice president of the Data Communication Product Line, further elaborated on Huawei’s new NG WAN solution, which aims to address these emerging network challenges by incorporating robust security measures.

Leaders from prominent international telecom providers took the stage to share their strategic plans and innovative practices in enhancing network security and building autonomous networks. The IPv6 forum's president awarded outstanding telecom representatives for their contributions to developing resilient and secure IP networks. The Egyptian National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) received the
