JAL Group's Commitment to Building an Inclusive Society

As the Disability Week approaches from December 3 to 9, 2025, the JAL Group is actively renewing its commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion. Under the guiding principle of striving for the happiness of all employees in both a physical and mental sense, JAL Group is dedicated to fostering an environment where everyone can thrive based on the concepts of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Currently, about 9% of individuals in Japan face some form of disability. Therefore, the JAL Group strives to create an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can live comfortably and securely. This journey involves eliminating barriers and improving accessibility, ensuring that a diverse workforce can come together, grow, and contribute towards a rich and thriving society for all.

Efforts and Initiatives

In its pursuit of inclusivity, JAL Group has joined the global network known as Valuable 500, which comprises over 500 companies committed to eradicating the exclusion of persons with disabilities. This emphasizes the company's strong commitment to ensuring that all individuals can participate and excel within the community.

A significant upcoming event is the SYNC25 Summit, set for December 2025, which is the world’s first accountability summit aimed at accelerating the inclusion of disabled individuals. This summit will gather the representatives of the Valuable 500 companies and communities from across the globe to discuss and deliberate on the future of social inclusivity. JAL Group will be represented by Executive Officer Junko Sakihara, who will address the session focusing on connecting corporate value enhancement with diversity initiatives.

Achievements in Disability Sports

Aside from its corporate initiatives, JAL Group celebrates the achievements of its athletes in various disability sports. Notably, Seiya Ota, a badminton player affiliated with J-AIR, participated in the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, winning gold in mixed team events and finishing fourth in men's doubles. Additionally, JAL athlete Yudai Suzuki celebrated his consecutive victories in the 200m and 400m events at the Japan Para Athletics Championships held in April 2025.

Moreover, Eriana Yuguchi made headlines in November 2025 by setting a world record in the 200m and an Asian record in the 100m during the NAGASE Cup 2025. These achievements highlight JAL Group's commitment not only to corporate responsibility but also to supporting and showcasing the talents of athletes with disabilities.

30th Anniversary of JAL Sunlight

This year marks the 30th anniversary of JAL Sunlight, a subsidiary of JAL Group that aims to create an environment in which disabilities do not hinder one's professional life. They have continually challenged themselves with new operations, providing services like shoe-shining and hand-dripped coffee in JAL's international first-class lounges. Additionally, in April 2025, they expanded their operations by establishing a base at Osaka (Itami) airport, venturing into cabin cleaning and café operations for employees.

Competing in Barista and Skills Championships

JAL Group employees have also demonstrated their skills in external competitions, notably winning the Challenge Coffee Barista contest in September 2025, showcasing exceptional talent and commitment. Furthermore, the participation of JSL employees in the 45th National Skills Competition and their accolades in nail treatment underscores JAL's dedication to inclusivity in various capacities.

Artistic Collaborations for Inclusion

In collaboration with Heralbony, JAL is set to exhibit the works of artist Keiya Tanida from December 5, 2025, to February 2026, at the JAL Sky Museum. This partnership aims to promote a society that respects diversity through colorful representations of art, allowing attendees to connect deeply with the initiative.

In alignment with promoting this theme, JAL will also be providing three distinct paper cup designs on domestic and international flights, featuring works from artists representing varied expressions and backgrounds, further reinforcing the message of embracing diversity.

Educational Experiences for Travelers

Recognizing the anxieties associated with air travel for children with developmental disorders and their families, JAL Group has been holding boarding experience events. These workshops are designed to help participants understand the boarding process and what to expect during a flight. The programs aim to alleviate anxiety and foster a sense of comfort while promoting a seamless travel experience.

As the JAL Group continues to push the envelope for inclusivity and diverse representation, it remains steadfast in its mission to create a more accepting and supportive society for everyone.
