Sozi Tulante Returns to Dechert as Co-Managing Partner

Dechert LLP has made a significant announcement regarding the appointment of Sozi Pedro Tulante as a partner in their Litigation group. He will take on the role of co-managing partner at the Philadelphia office, marking a noteworthy return to the firm he previously left.

Sozi Tulante served as Philadelphia's chief attorney from 2016 to 2018, where he led a formidable team of over 200 legal professionals. His leadership was crucial in representing the city in high-profile lawsuits and advising city officials including the mayor and city council. Tulante gained accolades for overseeing innovative civil litigation strategies in both state and federal courts, which significantly enhanced Philadelphia's legal standing in complex cases.

Before coming back to Dechert, Tulante was the general counsel and corporate secretary for a company focused on advanced energy storage systems. His experience there included managing global legal and compliance departments while offering strategic counsel on various commercial and legislative matters. His depth of experience in both the public and private sectors positions him as a vital asset to Dechert's Litigation group.

David Forti, co-chair of Dechert, expressed enthusiasm about Tulante’s return, emphasizing how it reflects the firm’s commitment to both Philadelphia and national legal landscapes, especially as clients increasingly face intricate commercial litigation that requires adept handling.

Douglas Fleming, co-chair of the product liability and mass torts practice, echoed Forti’s sentiments, underlining Tulante's unique courtroom skills and extensive network that are anticipated to be invaluable to clients navigating complex legal challenges.

“I’m thrilled to return to Dechert and excited about collaborating with my colleagues to provide high-quality, client-focused legal services,” Tulante remarked. He conveyed his commitment to guiding clients through various intricate legal disputes, underscoring his vast experience with product liability, consumer class actions, and governmental plaintiff lawsuits.

Tulante boasts a commendable educational background, holding a J.D. from Harvard Law School and an A.B. from Harvard College, both graduated cum laude. He began his legal career by clerking for the Honorable Reginald C. Lindsay of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

In addition to his impressive career, Tulante remains active in the local legal community as an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania Carey School of Law and serves on the board of trustees of the Wistar Institute. He is also an elected member of the prestigious American Law Institute, which highlights his standing in the legal profession.

Overall, Tulante's return to Dechert reinforces the firm’s focus on expanding its capabilities in high-stakes litigation, particularly in light of the increased complexity of cases being filed in Philadelphia. With his return, clients can expect robust representation and innovative legal strategies tailored to their unique challenges.
