Fostering Global Connections from Okayama

On August 1, 2025, the "Future Tobitate! Okayama Study Abroad Support Program" send-off event took place at the Okayama International Exchange Center. Four students from Okayama University participated in this event, which aimed to bridge local communities and the world through practical overseas study and internships at local businesses.

The initiative is organized by the Okayama Prefecture's industry-academia-government collaboration group, which aims to cultivate talents who can thrive internationally while being deeply rooted in their local communities.

The ceremony commenced with an opening address by Kenji Kobayashi, the representative of the Council. Following this, Yuuko Ozaki, the Deputy Governor of Okayama Prefecture, and Yoshio Nakajima, Secretary General of the Okayama Economic Federation, shared encouraging words with the students preparing for their studies abroad.

The students presented their aspirations and goals. Akemi Ebihara (4th year, Faculty of Education) and Yoshiyuki Iwata (2nd year, Global Discovery Program) spoke confidently about their thoughts on studying abroad. Additionally, Yuto Ochi, a 3rd-year engineering student currently at the University of Rhode Island under the newly established “Manufacturing Talent Course,” provided an interim report from abroad, demonstrating strong determination to become a bridge connecting Okayama with the global community through their international experiences.

In the latter part of the event, a networking session was held, bringing together exchange students, sponsoring companies, university staff, and government officials. Along with this year’s selected participants, Asako Ikuta (3rd year, Faculty of Literature), a participant from the previous year, also contributed to vibrant discussions during the exchange.

Following this send-off event, the selected students will undergo preparatory research on their internship companies before flying out for their international studies. Each of their unique journeys abroad is expected to be a vital step in shaping a promising future that connects local communities with the world.

Continuing its efforts, Okayama University strives to enhance its role as a core regional university with unique research capabilities and the commitment to produce future global leaders.
