Delska's New 10 MW Data Center in Latvia Achieves Tier III Certification
Delska's New Data Center and its Impact on the Industry
Delska, recognized as one of the foremost data center operators in Northern Europe, proudly announces that its upcoming data facility, named EU North Riga LV DC1, has achieved the highly esteemed Tier III Design Certification from the Uptime Institute. This prestigious certification signifies that the facility meets stringent standards for redundancy, security, and continuous service, ensuring an impressive uptime of 99.982%.
In an era where even a few seconds of downtime can lead to substantial financial losses, Delska's CEO Andris Gailitis emphasized the critical nature of this certification, stating, "Tier III ensures that our infrastructure remains operational even during planned maintenance." This resilience positions Delska as a leader in the data center landscape, particularly in the face of increasing energy shortages affecting major European hubs.
A Commitment to Sustainability and Efficiency
Planned for a capacity of 10 MW, the Riga facility is designed with modern workloads in mind, including AI and high-performance computing (HPC). Offering up to 250 kW per rack, the modular layout spans 6,000 square meters and is fully scalable, with potential expansion to 30 MW.
Sustainability is at the heart of Delska's design philosophy. The new data center will operate completely on wind energy, complemented by renewable diesel backup generators sourced from Neste MY. Delska has set ambitious goals, targeting a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of just 1.3, employing advanced cooling systems, hot aisle containment, and efficient mechanical cooling technologies provided by Weiss Technik and Trane Turbocor.
Moreover, high-density computing cooling methods will further enhance energy savings, demonstrating Delska's commitment to environmentally responsible operations. The facility aims to obtain LEED certification, a testament to its adherence to green building standards, a designation currently held by fewer than 15 buildings in Latvia.
Future Growth and Expansion
Upon completion, the LV DC1 facility will undergo a Tier III Facility certification process, confirming that both its construction and operational practices comply with the rigorous standards established during the design phase. This new center will represent Delska's third Tier III certified data center and brings the total to six, joining the two existing facilities in Lithuania.
Furthermore, Delska is planning the construction of an additional data center in Lithuania and is exploring opportunities for further expansion within the region, thus fortifying its network of data centers across the Baltic states.
