Uniting Family Fun and Sports at KEIRIN HOTEL 10
On November 23, 2025, the unique KEIRIN HOTEL 10 in Tamano City, Okayama, hosted a family-oriented event, collaborating with the experiential travel service, Family Trip, operated by Tenmaya Corporation. This event, titled "Discover Your Achievements: Keirin Rider Experience Tour," aimed to cultivate children's non-cognitive skills like self-esteem and motivation. This initiative was embedded within the vibrant backdrop of the 70-year-old Tamano Keirin Stadium, focusing on an unconventional intersection of education and the sport of keirin, which originated in Japan.
The event received an overwhelming response, with over 30 applications for just 20 available spots. Young participants enjoyed engaging activities, such as exploring the behind-the-scenes areas of the keirin stadium and interacting with current professional keirin riders. The event immersed families in a setting that combined local culture with hands-on experiences.
Experiencing Keirin Up Close
The program provided a rare glimpse into areas of the stadium usually closed to the public, including rider lounges, training rooms, and broadcast booths. The excitement among the kids was palpable as they interacted with seven active keirin riders, who enthusiastically shared their experiences. One of the highlights was at the gallery on the second floor of KEIRIN HOTEL 10, where children measured their jumping distances using training equipment, creating a fun and competitive atmosphere.
Participants also stood on the steep 30-degree banking of the racing track, where gasps of awe were frequent, impressed by the angle and height. Kids had the chance to ride bicycles on the very course where professional races are held. They were treated to a special sight of riders racing up close, an experience usually reserved for those watching from the stands, culminating in rounds of applause from the captivated audience.
Showcasing Growth and Learning Opportunities
The Family Trip initiative emphasized the development of children's non-cognitive skills, nurturing moments where they could exclaim, "I did it!" Parents and athletes distributed achievement stickers whenever children displayed empathy or accomplished something new, enriching the experience. Each sticker, designed to resemble the scales of the local black sea bream, represented milestones that children could visualize as they filled their accomplishment sheets. Parents noted instances of their children helping one another and taking initiative, indicating the successful symbiosis of learning and play.
Voices from Participants
Feedback from participating families was overwhelmingly positive. One parent remarked, "This was a fantastic learning experience as we explored areas of the keirin track that we never knew existed. It was wonderful to see my child so engaged and excited!" Another shared their joy in witnessing the kids’ active engagement and appreciation for the day’s events, stating, "The friendly interactions with the athletes made this event truly memorable. My child came home eager to learn everything about bicycles!"
