HUAWEI WATCH D3 Unveils Revolutionary Blood Pressure Monitoring at ISH-ECS 2026

The 31st scientific meeting of the International Society of Hypertension and the 17th annual conference of the Emirates Cardiac Society (ISH-ECS 2026) took place in Dubai from October 22 to 25, 2026. This significant international event gathered leading organizations and experts worldwide to discuss the latest research and developments in hypertension prevention and management. A highlight of the conference was the introduction of the HUAWEI WATCH D3, which demonstrated groundbreaking advancements in wearable blood pressure monitoring technology.

During the event, international experts showcased their research findings utilizing Huawei’s D Series portable blood pressure monitors. Their presentations emphasized how wearable technology can significantly aid in monitoring and managing blood pressure, crucial for preventing cardiovascular diseases. As a member of the International Society of Hypertension, HUAWEI seized the opportunity to present its new WATCH D3, allowing attendees to experience firsthand its medical-grade blood pressure monitoring capabilities in various scenarios. This hands-on demonstration illustrated how advanced wearable technology can make blood pressure monitoring not just easier, but seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

Understanding the critical need for effective blood pressure management, particularly as hypertension remains one of the most common chronic conditions globally, Huawei announced the establishment of the Wearable Blood Pressure Technology Innovation Fund in collaboration with ISH. This initiative aims to promote further research focused on blood pressure measurement and management using wearable devices. The fund will support innovative projects that explore new applications of wearable technology to advance hypertension management worldwide. Researchers from internationally recognized institutions, such as the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka and the University of Edinburgh in the UK, were invited to present their work, selected from over 80 applications submitted for funding.

Among the significant discussions at the conference was the growing acceptance of inflatable cuff-based blood pressure monitors within the medical community. Recent international guidelines and expert consensus recognized these devices as valid in self-monitoring practices. The European Society of Hypertension and ISH advocate for the clinical use of validated wrist-mounted blood pressure monitors, calling for further research on their application within clinical settings. This shift highlights the increasing international recognition of wearable technology's potential role in hypertension management.

In China, the 2024 edition of the national guidelines for hypertension prevention and management marked a milestone by including oscillometric monitoring with wearable devices. Additionally, recommendations for using validated smart devices for ambulatory blood pressure measurements are gaining traction.

During the Huawei sessions at the conference, experts presented the technological foundations behind the company’s comprehensive health management approach. They shared insights on HUAWEI WATCH D3 and its potential to facilitate accessible blood pressure monitoring. Professor Wang Jiguang, president of the Chinese Hypertension Association, noted the importance of innovations like minimally invasive ABPM (Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring) and environmental monitoring prompts afforded by HUAWEI WATCH D3 in shaping a new direction for seamless blood pressure management, integrated within daily routines.

Professor George Stergiou, president of the International Society of Hypertension, discussed the WATCH D3 as a reliable wearable device offering insights into blood pressure profiles and patterns. Alongside this, other health experts, such as Professor Maryam Al Saeed from the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, emphasized ongoing collaborations to assess non-invasive wearable technology for early diabetes risk, using real-world health data for personalized prevention.

As a third-generation blood pressure monitor, the HUAWEI WATCH D3 unites professional measurement capabilities with a lightweight design and additional features supporting daily blood pressure management. The device employs advanced oscillometric measuring technology paired with thin airbags, introducing a novel mode to measure blood pressure pre-and post-exercise. This feature evaluates the body’s responses to physical activity, helping users identify abnormal reactions, while offering relevant recommendations for safer exercise.

Additionally, the WATCH D3 represents the first device of its kind to receive CE certification under the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and has obtained Class II medical device registration in China. Collaborations with Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai aim to further research minimally invasive ABPM methodologies, expanding efforts to countries like Saudi Arabia and Malaysia through local partnerships.

The initiative integrates a hybrid approach, combining continuous photoplethysmographic monitoring with precise oscillometric measurements to minimize the number of required measurements during ambulatory monitoring. This comprehensive monitoring system provides users with detailed insights into their blood pressure patterns, including average readings during 24 hours and distinctions between daytime and nighttime measurements. Such information is invaluable for long-term hypertension management while empowering users to engage actively in their health.

The ISH-ECS 2026 highlighted the transformative potential of wearable technology in managing blood pressure, driven by innovations like the HUAWEI WATCH D3, driving the integration of advanced health monitoring tools into daily lives and encouraging individuals to take a proactive role in their health management.
