Optavise's Latest Report Highlights Importance of Healthcare Literacy in Boosting Employee Satisfaction

Optavise’s 2025 Healthcare Literacy Report

In the rapidly evolving landscape of employee benefits, Optavise, a premier provider of personalized employee benefits services, has unveiled its 2025 Healthcare Literacy Report. This significant study, based on a survey of 2,041 U.S. workers enrolled in employer-sponsored health plans, illuminates a positive trend towards increased employee satisfaction directly linked to enhancements in healthcare literacy.

Rising Satisfaction Rates

This year's report shows an encouraging rise in employee satisfaction with health plans, with 74% of respondents indicating they are very or extremely satisfied—a notable increase from 69% last year. Furthermore, 75% reported a clear understanding of how their benefits work, up from 68%. Despite these advancements, the report underscores a persistent challenge—many employees still struggle to navigate their benefits independently.

While progress is evident, ongoing educational and personal support is crucial to close the remaining gaps in understanding. Employees are increasingly seeking assistance from HR teams (40%) and third-party experts (18%), rising from 27% and 15%, respectively, suggesting a shift towards more interaction-based learning.

The Impact of Personalized Education

Facilitated communication is vital to improving understanding. Those who receive personalized education from HR or experts express significantly greater confidence in understanding their health plans (82%) compared to those relying solely on self-guided resources (65%). A staggering 87% of employees who are very or extremely satisfied with their benefits report easy access, while 58% of those finding access difficult do not feel confident about their healthcare understanding.

Joshua Madson, Head of Worksite Strategy at Optavise, explains, “When employees engage in a one-on-one discussion about their options, it promotes a deeper awareness of their plans.
