PC AGE Empowers Women in IT and Cybersecurity with Monthly Stipend and Aptitude Testing
Bridging the Gender Gap in IT and Cybersecurity
In a significant move to promote gender diversity in the technology sector, PC AGE Career Institute has unveiled a new initiative aimed at empowering women from low-income families to pursue careers in information technology (IT) and cybersecurity. With a staggering $200 monthly stipend offered to qualifying women, this program seeks to address the persistent gender gap in a field that boasts incredible job growth but remains disproportionately male-dominated.
The Current Landscape
While industries such as accounting have seen a shift towards female leadership, IT and cybersecurity continue to struggle with attracting women. Currently, only about 24% of cybersecurity positions are occupied by women, a statistic that has barely changed over the past few decades. Zafar Khizer, President of PC AGE, believes that fostering accessibility is crucial for facilitating this change.
"Seventy years ago, accounting was a male-dominated profession. Today, it's majority female. There's no reason why IT and cybersecurity can't follow suit, but we must eliminate the barriers that women face," Khizer stated.
Financial Support for Education
The stipend is available for women who qualify for federal Pell Grants, which offer significant support, potentially covering up to $9,860 in tuition. This financial aid will assist in redirecting resources for essential living expenses, including commuting, food, and childcare, making a substantial difference particularly for single mothers or those managing part-time jobs.
Understanding Barriers
Many women are unaware that cybersecurity encompasses a variety of roles, such as risk analysis, compliance, and policy, which require strong problem-solving and communication skills rather than just coding or hacking abilities. As Khizer points out, "Many women don’t see IT roles they can relate to. We aim to change that misconception and welcome their unique perspectives and skills into the field."
Program Accessibility
PC AGE offers a training program tailored for complete beginners, allowing individuals without previous tech experience to enter the field. Options for both on-campus and live online training give women the flexibility they need to balance their personal and professional lives.
Unique Features of the Program
1. $200/month stipend for qualified students.
2. No prior IT experience necessary
3. Women-led information sessions and career workshops
4. Job placement support, with starting salaries between $40,000 and $60,000
5. Potential career growth leading to salaries of $70,000 to $100,000+ within three to five years.
Assessing Aptitude with Science
To support women in determining if a tech career is a suitable fit, PC AGE offers a scientifically validated computer aptitude test that serves as an initial indicator of success in IT and cybersecurity roles. This test, available at computeraptitude.com, measures problem-solving and analytical skills without requiring prior computer knowledge.
"You don’t need coding skills; what’s essential is the right mindset, and we can help you discover if you have it," Khizer articulated.
A Call to Action
