Empowering Kids as Pro Designers: Creative KIDS Lab Workshop in Osaka

The DAC Future Support Cultural Corporation, led by Director Kazunori Ishikawa, in collaboration with Quantex, is hosting an innovative workshop called Creative KIDS Lab. Aimed at upper elementary school students from grades 4 to 6, this hands-on session will take place on October 25, 2026, in Umeda, Osaka.

Workshop Overview

The workshop tackles the pressing question: _“How can we revitalize local parks where community engagement has dwindled?”_ This specific challenge urges kids to engage with local community issues, fostering a sense of responsibility and creativity. Participants will utilize the design tool Canva to create a website focused on addressing this challenge. Over four hours, they will explore the foundations of design, generate ideas, and present their solutions in a fun, engaging way.

Focus on Local Park Revitalization

The decline of visitor numbers in local parks presents a genuine societal challenge. Concerns from local residents, along with safety issues, often lead to increased restrictions, discouraging visitors. By focusing on revitalizing parks, this workshop serves as a launch pad for students to engage with their surroundings and contribute positively to their communities.

Four Hours of Experience: Explore, Create, Present

The workshop is structured to guide participants through exciting stages:
  • - Hands-On Design Experience: Children will experience real-world website creation as budding Pro Kids Designers.
  • - Team Brainstorming: Students will work in teams to brainstorm ideas related to the theme of park revitalization, developing engaging and creative content.
  • - Utilization of Canva: Participants will learn about Canva, a popular design tool, and nurture their self-expression as well as their interest in IT and programming.

Canva is already widely adopted in educational settings, with over 600 municipalities introducing Canva for Education into schools. This workshop aims to cultivate children's creativity while enhancing their digital skills.
