Absa Global Pay: A Revolution in International Money Transfers
The Absa Group, one of Africa's leading diversified financial services providers, has teamed up with Thunes, known as the Smart Superhighway for money transfers, to introduce
Absa Global Pay. This next-generation solution promises to make cross-border money transfers faster, easier, and more affordable for millions of customers across Africa.
As international remittances play a crucial role in supporting families, education, healthcare, and small businesses, there is a growing demand for services that are intuitive, transparent, and cost-effective. The collaboration between Absa and Thunes answers this need by combining Absa's trusted pan-African banking presence with Thunes' agile Direct Global Network, providing a seamless real-time experience in money flows.
Enhanced User Experience
With Absa Global Pay, customers have the convenience of sending funds directly from the
Absa Banking App or
Connected Banking (Absa Online) with instant processing into 18 countries. The initial roll-out covers six countries: the UK, Kenya, India, Malawi, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe. Users can choose from various payout methods, including bank accounts, mobile wallets, or approved cash pickup locations. Complete transparency during transactions assures users with real-time notifications, enhancing trust and control over their funds.
Focus on Affordability and Transparency
Utilizing Thunes' well-established Direct Global Network combined with Absa's extensive reach in key African markets allows the new service to offer lower fees, clear pricing, and competitive exchange rates. This ensures that more of each transaction reaches households and businesses reliant on remittances as their financial lifeline.
Nick Nkosi, Managing Executive for Transactional and Deposit Banking at Absa Personal and Private Banking, expressed enthusiasm about the launch: "At Absa, we are committed to developing financial services that are innovative, intuitive, and closely aligned with our customers' daily needs. Remittances are essential in supporting families across borders, and our research indicates substantial opportunities in this area to create more value. Together with Thunes, we are providing a more straightforward, faster, and cost-effective option that offers customers choice, transparency, and real value."
Simon Nelson, Chief Commercial Officer at Thunes, added, "We are proud to partner with Absa, one of Africa's most trusted financial institutions, to expand access to modern, affordable cross-border payment solutions. By combining Absa's deep local knowledge with Thunes' far-reaching Direct Global Network, we aim to make international money transfers seamless and accessible to everyone, everywhere. This launch marks a significant milestone in our mission to enhance the continent's growth by driving intra-African money flow and providing inclusive financial connectivity to communities worldwide."
Building on a History of Payment Innovations
