Bunkamura Unveils Exciting Lineup for 2026

Since its opening in 1989, Bunkamura has been a vital hub for cultural and artistic expression in Shibuya, Tokyo. Today, while the Orchard Hall is temporarily closed for renovations, Bunkamura views this period as a unique opportunity to innovate and expand its offerings. The commitment remains strong to create and disseminate impactful cultural experiences that resonate in people's hearts. Under the initiative titled "Bunkamura Challenge," audiences can look forward to remarkable programming that threads exhilarating stories through art and performance.

A Musical Journey Awaits

The first half of 2026 will see Bunkamura host a variety of thrilling music and dance performances, both in-house and at various external venues. Anticipation is building for a recital by the talented piano duo, Lucas and Arthur Jussen, making waves ever since their debut with the Berlin Philharmonic this past February. Their performance on April 7 and 8, 2026, at Hamarikyu Asahi Hall promises to be a highlight for classical music fans.

In April, conductor Fabio Luisi will lead the NHK Symphony Orchestra in its Tokyo-Yokohama series on April 19, presenting Mahler's Symphony No. 5—a must-see for any fan of orchestral music. In June, audiences will experience a nostalgic evening featuring compositions from John Williams' iconic scores, under the baton of Keitaro Harada, marking one of the last performances at the Orchard Hall before its renovation.

Moreover, contemporary dance will take center stage in August with Marcos Morau's new work, "Kinkaku-ji," derived from a classic tale that promises to immerse the audience in an extraordinary experience.

Theatrical Highlights

This season also features an array of theatrical performances at the Theater Cocoon that promise to captivate and inspire. Kicking off in May, the annual “Kabukicho Grand Kabuki” will showcase a collaboration between the renowned Ichikawa Danshiro and his son, Ichikawa Ennosuke, featuring thrilling elements such as aerial acts and the experimental program “Koekabu.”

In June, the DISCOVER WORLD THEATRE series will present Jonathan Manby's adaptation of "Wendy and Peter Pan," blending visual artistry and physical storytelling—certainly a feast for the senses!
