Planet Fitness Awards $250,000 in Scholarships to Teens Promoting Kindness and Inclusion

Planet Fitness Honors Youth Advocates with Educational Grants



In a commendable initiative aimed at nurturing future leaders, Planet Fitness has awarded $250,000 in scholarships to 50 exceptional teens from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This annual Judgement Free Generation® scholarship recognizes young individuals who have demonstrated unwavering commitment to promoting kindness, acceptance, and community service. Each recipient, a high school senior, receives a scholarship of $5,000, furthering their chances of pursuing higher education.

Since the inception of the program in 2017, Planet Fitness has been dedicated to supporting young people: nearly $2 million has been awarded to 380 teens to date. A notable aspect of this year's scholarship recipients is that over half of them, approximately 58%, are first-generation college students, embodying the mission of foster inclusivity and support.

Selection Process


The selection process for the Judgement Free Generation® scholarship was rigorous, involving numerous applications evaluated through personal essays, recommendations, and video submissions. The evaluations were based on each candidate's demonstration of kindness and active involvement in their communities. This year’s winners are not merely scholars; rather, they are advocates for social values and inclusive communities.

In addition to their scholarships, each winner will enjoy a one-year complimentary Black Card® membership at Planet Fitness, further enhancing their ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle. They will also attend the Judgement Free Generation® Scholarship Summit, which aims to create networking opportunities and enhance personal growth among the recipients.

Spotlight on Inspiring Recipients


Three outstanding scholars exemplify the impact of this scholarship:

1. Felicity S.: After caring for her sick grandmother at the age of 13, Felicity launched a Glamour Gals chapter to provide companionship to senior citizens through activities like nail painting. Determined to foster human connections, she will study Business Administration at San Diego State University.

2. Gabriel S.: Diagnosed with cancer at a young age, Gabriel experienced feelings of alienation during treatment. Inspired by those who helped him feel included, he volunteers at a summer camp for children battling cancer. Gabriel plans to pursue pre-medicine at Yale University, striving to continue building supportive environments.

3. Liam S.: A passionate community builder, Liam invites friends and new students to his home for shared meals and cultural exchanges. His dedication to community service leads him to study Environmental Science and Urban Planning at Georgetown University, aiming to address local challenges through connection and support.

Commitment to Values


McCall Gosselin, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Planet Fitness, emphasized the company's commitment to fostering a Judgement Free environment. The partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America plays a pivotal role in this mission, enhancing youth wellbeing and empowering teens to cultivate kinder communities. Jim Clark, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, affirms that alumni are significantly more likely to see themselves as leaders, thanks to such supportive collaborations.

Since the partnership began in 2016, Planet Fitness has invested over $12 million to enhance youth welfare through various initiatives, including funding innovative social-emotional skill-building programs at Boys & Girls Clubs. These programs adopt a trauma-informed approach, acknowledging the emotional scars many youth carry and providing pathways for growth and healing.

The establishment of mini-Judgement Free Zones® in select clubs, hosting fitness programs for youth, and participating in community service further exemplify Planet Fitness's commitment to creating positive environments.
