JENESYS Program: A Step Towards Environmental Conservation in Brunei
In an effort to strengthen international relations and enhance environmental consciousness, the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) is organizing a special invitation program for Brunei’s university students and researchers majoring in environmental conservation. This initiative is designed to bring together young entrepreneurs and government officials from Brunei with Japanese experts to foster sustainable practices and innovations.
Overview of the Program
The JENESYS program, focusing on Japan-Brunei environmental conservation exchanges, aims to address the growing interest and initiatives in environmental preservation in Brunei. In recent years, there has been a notable rise in young entrepreneurs establishing NGOs and NPOs in the fields of waste management and recycling. The program is scheduled to take place from November 18 to November 24, 2025, in Tokyo and Shizuoka.
Objectives
The primary goal of this exchange program is to introduce advanced Japanese environmental technologies to participants, thereby stimulating awareness and paving the way toward a sustainable society. This initiative not only enhances knowledge but also strengthens the relationship between Japan and Brunei, creating a platform for future collaborations.
Target Participants
The program invites eight young individuals, including university students and researchers specializing in environmental conservation, as well as emerging entrepreneurs and government officials from related fields in Brunei. This targeted selection aims to create a focused dialogue on pressing environmental issues and innovative solutions.
Schedule of Activities
Participants will be engaged in a variety of activities that include lectures, site visits, and networking opportunities:
- - November 18 (Tuesday): Arrival in Japan, orientation, and thematic lectures at the Ministry of the Environment.
- - November 19 (Wednesday): Visits related to the theme at the Machida Bioenergy Center, followed by tours of Asakusa and Ginza.
- - November 20 (Thursday): Travel from Tokyo to Shizuoka, with further thematic lectures and discussions at Shizu-Mall Numakubo.
- - November 21 (Friday): Thematic site visits and experiences at Seven-Eleven Japan, followed by a homestay introduction ceremony.
- - November 22 (Saturday): Continued homestay experience for immersive learning and cultural exchange.
- - November 23 (Sunday): Wrap-up of homestay activities, farewell party with host families, and workshops focused on environmental issues.
- - November 24 (Monday): Return to Tokyo and a report presentation before departing for Brunei.
Language and Methodology
All activities will be conducted in English, allowing participants to communicate effectively and fully immerse themselves in the learning experience. The program will take place through face-to-face interactions, enabling deeper connections and understanding among participants.
