Rawlings Honors Mattingly Charities with Heart of Gold Award
On October 28, 2025, Rawlings®, the major gear supplier for America's pastime, proudly presented its esteemed Heart of Gold Award™ to Mattingly Charities. This annual accolade celebrates organizations dedicated to improving the lives of underserved youth through education, social development, and sports programs.
Located in St. Louis, Rawlings is known as the official game ball and glove of Major League Baseball® and has a long-standing tradition of excellence in the sporting goods industry. The award ceremony recognized Mattingly Charities for its unwavering commitment and notable contributions to the Evansville community, where it operates.
Making a Difference in the Community
Rawlings' Chief Marketing Officer, Mike Thompson, stated that the impact of baseball transcends the field and resonates significantly within communities. The recognition of Mattingly Charities aligns with Rawlings’ vision of fostering community development through sports and education. Throughout the years, Mattingly Charities has made generous grants amounting to over one million dollars, focusing on aiding various organizations that serve youth in need.
Don Mattingly, former professional baseball player and the founder of Mattingly Charities, emphasized the importance of this award. Having received nine Gold Glove Awards over his illustrious career, Mattingly expressed that this award is uniquely special as it reflects his intentions behind establishing the charity. His aim has always been to give back to his roots in Evansville and to provide opportunities for the next generation, allowing them to carve out their own paths.
“This award means something different and speaks to the heart of why I started Mattingly Charities,” Mattingly shared. He and his wife, Lori, are dedicated to promoting both education and athletics through a variety of programs and initiatives. Their efforts have positively influenced numerous local organizations and the lives of countless youth.
Legacy of Generosity
Mattingly Charities was founded in 2007 with a clear mission: to support educational advancement, social development, and athletic opportunities for young individuals in underserved communities. With past endeavors including grants to over 25 organizations, the charity has demonstrated an impactful presence since relocating to Evansville in 2015. The organization provides funding ranging from $1,000 to $40,000, with all proceeds generated from fundraising activities reinvested into community initiatives.
In addition to the commendation of Mattingly Charities, it's noteworthy to mention the previous recipients of the Rawlings Heart of Gold Award. Esteemed names include baseball legends like Tommy Lasorda, Cal Ripken Jr., Albert Pujols, and Derek Jeter, each recognized for their philanthropic efforts and commitment to charity.
As the legacy continues, Rawlings remains dedicated to recognizing those who exemplify the spirit of giving back through their philanthropic endeavors. Only through collective efforts can we hope to make meaningful changes that affect future generations.
