Legendary Ex-Baseball Players Inspire Youth at JA Zennoh WCBF Baseball Clinic

On Saturday, September 26th, a dynamic youth baseball clinic was held at the Koala no March Stadium in Miyazaki Prefecture, organized by the Japan Agricultural Cooperative's (JA Zennoh) special sponsorship. This event, known as the JA Zennoh WCBF Youth Baseball Clinic, has been running for 34 years and is hosted by the World Children's Baseball Foundation (WCBF), under the leadership of legendary baseball player Sadaharu Oh.

The clinic saw participation from 160 individuals, including players from 10 local youth baseball teams in Miyakonojo City, coaches, and parents. The attendees received direct instruction from four distinguished former baseball players: Kiyoshi Nakahata (Yomiuri Giants), Takashi Taguchi (Orix Buffaloes), Tsuyoshi Wada (SoftBank Hawks), and Tomoya Satozaki (Chiba Lotte Marines).

During a presentation, players from JA Miyazaki presented each instructor with a generous gift of Miyazaki beef sirloin steak, symbolizing the local cuisine's richness. In his opening remarks, Kiyoshi Nakahata emphasized the joy of baseball, encouraging the children to embrace every moment with enthusiasm. Likewise, Katsuyoshi Koike from Zennoh stressed the importance of consuming locally sourced, rich agricultural products for their healthy development.

Following a warm-up session, the instructors dove into the fundamentals of baseball. Taguchi taught the basics of base running, while Wada focused on pitching techniques. The young players were divided into key positions—pitchers, catchers, and fielders—to grasp essential skills like throwing, catching, batting, and running. The children's attentiveness and determination were evident as they engaged with the instructors’ guidance.
