Discover the Essence of Performance: Impromptu Theatre 'Origins Theory'
The upcoming impromptu theatre production 'Origins Theory' challenges the very foundations of performance art and announces its presence in the vibrant Tokyo arts scene. This remarkable event, created under the auspices of the Tokyo Performing Arts Foundation, will take place at Za Koenji 1, located in the Suginami district of Tokyo, from
October 29 to November 2, 2025. As tickets go on sale through Confetti, audiences are invited to engage deeply with the question of what underpins performance art itself.
A Journey into the Heart of Existence
Under the artistic direction of Butoh performer Taketeru Kudo, this one-hour show, known for its deep engagement with the themes of life, breath, and rebirth, promises a transformative experience. The impromptu nature of the performance leaves no script or rigid outlines; instead, every moment unfolds naturally, guiding both performers and audience into a profound exploration of existence. Here, movement and sound emerge not merely as choices, but as unavoidable outcomes of live creation. Viewers will be witnesses to this generative process, confronting the essence of "life" as articulated through body and sound.
Kudo, alongside an array of talented musicians, will create a unique theatrical language that evokes the primal roots of performance art, where movement and sound resonate like a prayer before words.
The Schedule and Noteworthy Performers
The lineup over the five days showcases a rich tapestry of influential artists and musicians:
