RapidScale Launches Technology Scholarship at Wake Tech

RapidScale, a renowned provider of managed cloud services and a part of Cox Business, has made a significant investment in future technological talent by announcing the RapidScale Technology Scholarship at Wake Technical Community College. This initiative is designed to support students enrolled in various high-demand information technology degree programs, including IT Service Support, Cybersecurity, Cloud Infrastructure, and Computer Programming and Development.

The scholarship was officially launched on July 10, 2025, and is fully endowed. It marks the first of its kind at Wake Tech, intended to provide students with financial assistance as they prepare for careers in the fast-evolving tech industry. The program aligns closely with RapidScale's needs for skilled professionals, demonstrating the company's commitment to building a diverse and job-ready talent pool in the Raleigh-Durham Triangle.

Duane Barnes, the president of RapidScale, expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration, stating, "We're excited to deepen our partnership with Wake Tech and invest in the next generation of technology professionals. By partnering with Wake Tech, we're helping students gain the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in our fast-moving industry, and ensuring our teams are strengthened by fresh, diverse talent."

In addition to the scholarship program, RapidScale has committed to becoming the presenting sponsor for a new lab located at the RTP Campus, which will be named the RapidScale Innovation Lab. This lab is set to enhance the curriculum with technologies that are in high demand among industry partners. Plans also include the creation of a maker space, where students and faculty can engage with emerging technologies, thereby ensuring practical learning experiences.

The sponsorship agreement spans over 15 years, providing RapidScale with branding opportunities and input in the lab's design. This strategic initiative is designed to further solidify RapidScale's presence as a technology leader both within the college community and the wider industry landscape.

Wake Tech Information Technology Dean Cindy Luttrell acknowledged the importance of partnerships with industry leaders like RapidScale, saying, "Partnering with industry leaders plays a vital role in helping us deliver high-quality, relevant education to Wake Tech students. With this collaboration, we are able to offer innovative, hands-on learning experiences in the Innovation Lab and foster clear pathways to career opportunities."

The scholarship and lab sponsorship are part of a broader investment of $60,000 aimed at fostering workforce development and innovation within the region, further emphasizing RapidScale's commitment to nurturing a skilled workforce suitable for the technology of today and tomorrow.

As part of their recruitment goals, RapidScale anticipates hiring 5 to 10 graduates from Wake Tech in 2026, with plans to potentially double that number as the company expands its operations. This makes it evident how strategic partnerships like these not only benefit educational institutions but also fulfill the hiring needs of tech companies.
