Alvarez & Marsal Strengthens Corporate Finance Division in Japan

On September 1, 2026, Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), a leading global professional services firm, announced a significant enhancement of its Japanese operations by appointing Yuichiro Aso as Managing Director and co-head of the Corporate Finance division. Aso, who will work alongside the current head of the division, Taka昆, has been instrumental since the Tokyo office was opened in November 2025.

This strategic move underscores A&M's commitment to expanding client services in the Japanese market. Aso brings over 20 years of invaluable experience in investment banking and M&A advisory, having previously served as Chief Sales Officer at Armaado Inc., a consumer goods manufacturer. His background also includes a two-decade tenure at Nomura Securities, where he handled over 50 investment banking deals including M&As, IPOs, and more. Additionally, Aso has experience in advisory roles at EY Japan.

Paul Abelsono, Managing Director and head of A&M’s Global Transaction Advisory Group (Global TAG) in Japan, expressed his excitement about the expansion. He stated, "Since entering the Japanese market last year, we have been keen on leveraging our global model to address the dual challenges faced by Japanese firms in expanding globally and foreign companies entering the Japanese market. We prioritize investing in top talent to ensure we provide the highest quality of service, and Aso exemplifies the kind of exceptional professionals we seek to integrate into our network."

Abelsono highlighted that Japan is undergoing significant changes in corporate governance and shareholder activism, making external advisory services critical for successful corporate transformations. A&M has established a distinguished position among new consulting entrants in Japan and is committed to ongoing investments in the market. Their unique approach aims to support clients in creating value and seizing business opportunities.

Daisaku Nonaka, Managing Director and head of the TAG division in Japan, remarked on Aso's appointment as a considerable strengthening of their corporate finance team. He emphasized A&M's ongoing commitment to investing in robust platforms that support all types of corporate engagements, public and private. As A&M expands its presence in Japan, they will continue to focus on acquiring talent like Aso who deliver exceptional value to their clients.

Reflecting on his new role, Aso stated, "Joining A&M at this growth phase in Japan presents an incredible opportunity for me to collaborate with a team full of entrepreneurial spirit. I am eager to contribute to expanding A&M’s presence in Japan and support clients in their corporate transformation initiatives."
