Parents Anonymous® Engages Los Angeles Communities Through National Parent Leadership Month® Events

Throughout the month of February, Parents Anonymous® conducted various activities across Los Angeles to honor National Parent Leadership Month®. This initiative aimed to unite local parents and children, community leaders, and policymakers, all collaborating to alleviate parental stress while fortifying families within the region.

National Parent Leadership Month®, recognized each February, was established to commend the commitment and leadership of parents who actively work to foster strong families. Events during the month were designed not only to celebrate this theme but to provide tangible support and resources to the attendees.

One of the culminating activities of this initiative occurred on February 28 with a community food distribution event in El Sereno. In partnership with Senator María Elena Durazo and local organizations including the Barrio Action Youth Family Center and God's Pantry, Parents Anonymous® provided nourishing food and essential family resources to 250 families.

Dr. Lisa Pion-Berlin, President and CEO of Parents Anonymous®, emphasized the importance of accessibility to healthy food for families in underserved communities. “For many families, access to affordable, healthy food can be limited. By collaborating with trusted community partners, we are offering meaningful relief that supports family well-being,” she stated, encouraging participation in the California Parent Youth Helpline®, which provides free emotional support and resources.

During this event, Senator Durazo also distributed recognition certificates to organizations participating in this noble cause. She articulated, “No family can thrive when they’re worried about where their next meal is coming from,” remarking on the impact of providing essential resources to struggling families.

As El Sereno continues to grapple with economic challenges, initiatives like these are pivotal. Tammy Membreno, President of the Barrio Action Youth Family Center, pointed out how food support helps alleviate pressures on families, allowing parents to focus more on their children's needs.

Several other events throughout February served to connect families with community resources. On February 13, Parents Anonymous® joined forces with Assemblymember Mark González, the Chinatown Service Center, and God's Pantry for a food distribution in Chinatown, benefiting over 300 families. Additionally, a game night was organized on February 19 at the Pomona Public Library, providing a fun night filled with snacks and games for families.

Another notable event took place on February 26 at the Van Nuys Well-Being Center, where community members participated in planting trees to symbolize parental leadership and community growth. Finally, on February 27, a resource event in Palmdale featured various activities aimed at fostering mental wellness, including a meditation room, arts and crafts for children, and community resource raffles.

Each event not only emphasized family connectivity and fun but also promoted access to free emotional support through the 24/7 California Parent Youth Helpline and Weekly Parents Anonymous® Support Groups. These resources are crucial for parents and youth alike, available in multiple languages via call, text, or chat.

For over 50 years, Parents Anonymous® has been a beacon of support for parents and youth across the nation, creating evidence-based programs aimed at strengthening families. The organization has similarly established platforms such as the Community Family Resource Center, aiding those in need with ongoing emotional and practical support. As a recognized program by the Federal Title IV-E Prevention Clearinghouse, Parents Anonymous® leads the way in improving parenting practices and reinforcing community mental wellness.

In conclusion, the events held throughout February not only celebrated National Parent Leadership Month but also highlighted the significant need for continued support within local communities. The collaboration and services provided by Parents Anonymous® and its partners reflect a proactive stance in building a nurturing environment where families can thrive together.
