Premise Health Expands Wellness Services in Chicagoland Area
In a significant move to enhance healthcare services for union members and their families, Premise Health has completed the expansion of physical therapy and chiropractic care within its nearsite wellness centers located throughout the Chicagoland area. This development marks an important milestone just a year after the completion of a multi-site initiative that established wellness sites in key locations including Northbrook, Grayslake, Elgin, Joliet, and Utica in Illinois. Now, these wellness centers will offer access to these specialized services at no cost to over 150,000 union members and their families.
Commitment to Member Wellbeing
Tom Bernstein, administrative manager of the Midwest Operating Engineers (MOE), emphasized the underlying philosophy of the initiative. He stated that the wellbeing of Local 150 families is paramount, and the integration of physical therapy and chiropractic care exemplifies a commitment to comprehensive health. This expansion aims to ensure that members can continue to meet the demands of their work without being hindered by physical ailments.
Back, neck, and joint pain are prevalent issues affecting workers and often lead to doctor visits and absenteeism. As highlighted by studies published in PubMed and reports from the World Health Organization, effective management of these conditions is crucial for maintaining a productive workforce. The new offerings from Premise are designed to allow union members and their families to address various pain points, including shoulder, neck, back pain, sprains, as well as pre- and post-surgical recovery needs.
A Holistic Approach to Healthcare
Kristina Guastaferri, the executive director of the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council (MACRC), reflected on the physical toll that a union carpenter’s career can exact on an individual's body. She expressed excitement about the new services, which aim to alleviate physical stress through education, exercise, and rehabilitation tailored to the specific needs of workers in the field.
The nearsite wellness centers will provide on-site treatments conducted by licensed physical therapists and chiropractors. These professionals will develop personalized treatment plans, assist with goal setting, and offer ongoing education about injury prevention and home exercises. The services build on an existing suite that includes primary care, pharmacy, and behavioral health, ensuring a multidimensional approach to healthcare that is integrated and collaborative.
Introducing physical therapy and chiropractic services reflects Promises Health's goal to not only respond to acute incidents but also to provide preventative care. Jon Leizman, chief medical officer at Premise, emphasized the importance of addressing underlying causes of musculoskeletal pain and empowering union members with tools and support for improved health outcomes.
Strengthening Community Health
In addition to the recent expansions in Illinois, Premise Health operates four other dedicated health centers in collaboration with local unions, such as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134. Earlier this year, Premise and MACRC marked the opening of the Carpenters Wellness Center in Kansas City, Missouri, further underscoring their commitment to union health.
Premise Health has established itself as a vital partner to large organizations by providing accessible healthcare experiences that prioritize member wellbeing. With the mission to help individuals get, stay, and be well, Premise operates over 800 wellness centers across 46 states and Guam, catering to millions of members through innovative care models.
This recent expansion signifies a protective step towards a healthier future for union members and their families, facilitating the physical and mental wellness crucial to their quality of life.
