Tokyo's Transit Authority Launches AI-Powered Lost Item Search Service

Tokyo's New AI-Powered Lost Item Search Service

The Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation has recently partnered with the startup company Find Inc., located in Minato, Tokyo, to introduce an innovative lost item search service named 'Find Chat'. This service leverages artificial intelligence to enhance the search for lost belongings across various Tokyo transit options.

What Does the Service Cover?

The Find Chat service specifically addresses lost items on Tokyo's transportation network, including the Tokyo Metro, Toei Buses, Tokyo Sakura Tram (Toei Arakawa Line), and the Nippori-Toneri Liner. With this service, travelers can easily report and inquire about lost items from their smartphones or computers at any time, day or night.

Service Launch Date

The new service is set to officially launch on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 9 am.

Features of the 'Find Chat' Service

1. 24/7 Availability: Users can access the chat function on their devices, making inquiries about lost items any time. While inquiries can be made around the clock, responses from operators will be provided between 9 am and 10 pm. If inquiries are made after 9 pm, they will receive replies the following morning.

2. Image Upload: Users have the option to upload images of their lost items. The AI system analyzes these images automatically to identify distinctive features, enhancing the chances of retrieval.

3. Multilingual Support: The service will be available in four languages: Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, and Korean, ensuring it caters to a diverse user base.

How to Use the Service

1. Access Find Chat: Users can access Find Chat and register via email for authentication. There is no need to download an app, although starting in July, authentication will also be available via LINE.

2. Input Lost Item Details: After authentication, users can open a web form via a notification link to submit details about their lost items.

3. Await Operator Response: An operator will conduct a search and respond with any findings. If the item is not immediately located, operators will perform a follow-up search the next day, allowing for one additional look.

4. Retrieve Your Item: If the lost item is found, it can be picked up from designated locations such as the nearest Tokyo Metro stations or Toei bus offices. Users should bring valid identification, such as a health insurance card, driver's license, or My Number card, to verify their identity.

Enhanced Workflow for Staff

The implementation of this new service is expected to streamline operational workflow for staff at stations and bus offices. By simply capturing photos of any lost items, AI will automatically recognize and input characteristics like item types and colors into the system, greatly reducing the manual workload involved in lost item management.
