The stamp will officially be unveiled during a special event at the Association for the Study of African American Life and History's 111th annual conference in Norfolk, Virginia. Scheduled for September 23, 12 p.m. ET, this event is free to the public and will mark another significant addition to the USPS's collection of festive stamps.

Kwanzaa, celebrated from December 26 to January 1, emphasizes themes of community, family, and culture, drawing on various African traditions. It was first established in the United States in 1966, aiming to unify African Americans from diverse backgrounds through shared cultural observances. The name 'Kwanzaa' originates from the Swahili term meaning 'first fruits,' symbolizing the day's ethos of harvest and togetherness.

The newly designed Kwanzaa stamp showcases two important Kwanzaa symbols: the gift (known as zawadi), which is depicted in the hands of a daughter, and the unity cup (kikombe cha umoja), held by a father. This unique portrayal highlights family dynamics in a thoughtful and celebratory manner. Unlike previous stamps, this design focuses on the father-daughter relationship, giving a refreshing twist to their ongoing Kwanzaa stamp series.

The stamp's artwork was crafted by the talented designer Cannaday Chapman, with direction from USPS art director Antonio Alcalá. Set to be issued as a Forever stamp, it retains lifelong validity, always equal to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce rate.
