Revelatory Voices: Kibera Artists to Share Their Journeys in Tokyo
In an exciting cultural exchange, three talented Kenyan artists from the Kibera slum, home to vibrant creativity and resilience, are set to land in Tokyo to present their work. Organized by non-profit organization SHIFT80, this initiative showcases the results of their recent Artist-in-Residence program at the Art Center BUG in Tokyo, coinciding with the ongoing photo and video exhibition titled
“The World through the Lens of Kibera: From Being Told to Telling.” The exhibition runs from April 25 to May 31, 2026.
The Artists Making Their Mark
The artists visiting Tokyo are
Sir.jeree (Jeremiah Onyango),
Frankline Olando, and
Vin Sekani, each bringing unique perspectives shaped by their experiences in Kibera. Their presence in Tokyo symbolizes a significant shift from being mere subjects of external narratives to becoming empowered storytellers in their own right.
