Howard University and Follett Higher Education Join Forces to Enhance Student Experience and Cut Costs
Howard University Enters Partnership with Follett Higher Education
Howard University has recently announced a significant partnership with Follett Higher Education, a prominent name in campus retail, aiming to enhance the bookstore experience for students and reduce the costs of educational materials. This collaboration not only promises to support Howard's students through affordable pricing but also aims to enrich their overall shopping experience on campus.
A Vision for Cost-Effective Solutions
Through this agreement, Follett will manage the university's campus retail operations, granting Howard students easier access to essential course materials. The partnership includes the Follett Access program, designed to provide students with automatic access to required textbooks at prices below the market average. This initiative addresses the growing concern over the escalating costs of higher education and textbooks, easing the financial burden on students and their families.
Follett, known for its extensive experience in the educational sector—over 150 years—serves more than 1,000 campuses across North America and is committed to driving student success. By leveraging their expertise, they aim to provide Howard’s student body with a seamless, engaging retail experience, thereby supporting their academic journey effectively.
Exciting Plans for the Future
As part of this partnership, a complete remodeling of the Howard University Bookstore is planned for the summer of 2026. This overhaul aims to improve the appearance and functionality of the store, making it a welcoming space for all students, faculty, and alumni. An added focus will be to feature products from Black-owned and alumni-owned businesses, thereby fostering a connection with the community and celebrating diverse entrepreneurship.
In addition to a revamped physical storefront, the partnership will expand the technology section within the bookstore. This includes authorized Apple products and services, which aim to meet the technological needs of today’s students.
LaNiece Tyree, Assistant Vice President of Howard’s Office of Auxiliary Enterprises, expressed her enthusiasm: "Howard University is proud to partner with Follett Higher Education to reimagine the campus retail experience... Follett's commitment to honoring our legacy and culture through localized assortments and partnerships with Black-owned brands aligns with our vision and values."
Bringing Innovation to Campus Retail
Starting June 16, the new collaboration will also enhance the online shopping experience for Howard students. Leveraging Follett's resources, the revamped online store will be accessible 24/7, offering a wide array of products including apparel, technology, and necessary course materials. With this innovative approach, students and alumni alike can engage with Howard University from anywhere, ensuring they remain connected and supported by their institution.
Overall, the partnership between Howard University and Follett Higher Education promises a brighter, more cost-effective future for students. By focusing on affordability and accessibility, this initiative embodies a commitment to excellence, community involvement, and an enhanced educational experience for all involved. As the landscape of higher education continues to evolve, collaborations like these stand to make a significant impact on student success and satisfaction.
