On September 20th and 21st, residents and those contemplating relocation will have the chance to engage directly with the artisans of Ohori Soma Pottery and explore the area’s remarkable recovery journey. This second Community Insight Tour aims to connect newcomers with the local culture and industry, highlighting Namie’s commitment to recovery and sustainability. The event is free to attend, with transportation costs to Namie being the only out-of-pocket expense.

The tour begins with an introductory session in Tokyo at OFF TOKYO on August 7th, paving the way for participants to directly experience the town where traditional craftsmanship and community life flourish. We aim to create lasting relationships between attendees and the community, facilitating a deeper understanding of the local culture.

Historically, Ohori Soma Pottery has withstood the test of time for over 300 years, embodying the artistic spirit of Namie. Following the devastating earthquake and nuclear disaster, many potters faced dislocation and uncertainty, resulting in significant changes in production and community dynamics. However, the artisans' dedication has ensured that the art form continues to thrive amidst adversity. Through this tour, participants will gain firsthand knowledge of the passion and commitment driving the revival of this cherished craft.
