Second Shippokukai Architectural Exhibition

The Shippokukai Architectural Exhibition returns for its second iteration, set to take place from April 17 to April 22, 2026, at the AYUMI GALLERY in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. This exhibition, organized by the renowned architect Taku Sakauchi and his alumni from Shinshu University and Tokyo University of Science, aims to showcase the evolving conversations surrounding architecture today.

The name ‘Shippokukai’ reflects the desire for harmony, as embodied in the character ‘卓’ that is part of Sakauchi's name. This organization strives to create a platform for young architects to share their creative visions and collectively explore the future of architecture. Following the success of last year's debut event, this exhibition centers around the theme of “diversity.” It will feature around 13 unique works from 10 different groups, including residential designs, public facilities, and innovative challenges with furniture and materials.

Attendees can expect a variety of expressive mediums including models, drawings, plans, and photographs. Each of these presentations will offer a glimpse into the creative thought processes of the architects involved.

In a new initiative this year, the exhibition will also host online events. The first is a lecture by Taku Sakauchi on Zoom, scheduled for April 18, 2026, from 18:00 to 19:30. Participants will have the opportunity to hear about Sakauchi's recent experiences, including his time teaching in Chile and insights into his upcoming publication.

Additionally, on April 19, 2026, an online review session will be held from 14:30 to 19:45, where Sakauchi will provide feedback on the exhibited works. Special guest Daiki Amanai, an associate professor at Aoyama Gakuin University, will join the discussion as a critique, ensuring a valuable dialogue surrounding the pieces on display. The online review will also include breakout sessions for participating teams to discuss their works with each other.

Guests are encouraged to visit the exhibition venue, AYUMI GALLERY located at 114 Yarai-cho, Shinjuku, Tokyo, and enjoy a walk through the beautiful Kagurazaka neighborhood.
