Carolinas AGC Announces Leadership Transition
In a significant update for the construction industry, the Carolinas AGC (CAGC) has officially announced that Leslie Clark will take over as President and CEO, succeeding Dave Simpson, effective April 1, 2027. This transition has been carefully planned and is set to unfold over the following months to ensure a smooth shift in leadership.
The decision for this leadership change comes as CAGC looks to continue its tradition of excellence and member focus, with both Clark and Simpson working closely together in the lead-up to the transition. Their combined experience of over 60 years within the organization positions them to guide CAGC through this pivotal phase successfully.
The Chair of the CAGC Board of Directors, Lynn Hansen, expressed confidence in this transition. She noted that the timing couldn't be better, mentioning, "Carolinas AGC is in great shape." Under Simpson’s stewardship over the last 12 years, the organization has achieved significant milestones, including being recognized as one of the best chapters nationally among 87 chapters across the United States.
Simpson joined CAGC back in 1989, initially steering the North Carolina Building Division. He rose to the role of President and CEO in 2014 and has since led the group through various challenges while advocating for the interests of the construction sector. As April 2027 approaches, Simpson has indicated that he feels it will be the right time to pass the reins to Leslie Clark, who has an impressive background with the organization, having served in several capacities since joining in 2000. Most recently, she was the COO/VP of SC External Affairs and has held leadership roles in both the South Carolina Building and Highway Divisions.
The executive committee of the Board has proactively engaged in a strategic plan over the years, which includes management succession as a critical focus area. Such initiatives reflect the forward-thinking approach of CAGC in ensuring that leadership transitions are managed effectively with the organization's mission front and center.
As part of the transition plan, both leaders will collaborate closely over the next 14 months to solidify the future trajectory of CAGC, instilling confidence among members about the continuity and stability of the organization. “Our primary purpose is Building Our Members' Success,” the statement reads, reiterating its commitment to members and the construction industry as a whole.
With CAGC poised for this leadership change, it remains dedicated to its core values of being member-led and member-focused. The team will continue to serve as a resource for members and strives for continual improvement.
Carolinas AGC acts as a vital voice within the commercial construction sector across the Carolinas, encompassing a diverse range of contractors and construction-related firms involved in building, utilities, and highway work. As they look toward the future, both Leslie Clark’s expertise and Dave Simpson’s long-term knowledge will play integral roles in defining what’s next for CAGC and, by extension, the construction industry in the Carolinas.
