Humanitarian Award: Coleen S. Sabatini, MD
Honored with the Humanitarian Award, Dr. Coleen S. Sabatini, MPH, FAAOS, is recognized for her tireless commitment to delivering quality care for children suffering from musculoskeletal conditions. As a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital, she emphasizes the necessity of access to quality care for every child. Furthermore, her international work, particularly in Uganda, focuses on education and capacity building within pediatric orthopaedics, profoundly influencing healthcare practices and outcomes in resource-limited areas.
Leadership Award: Steven Gitelis, MD
The 2025 William W. Tipton, Jr., MD, Leadership Award goes to Dr. Steven Gitelis, FAAOS, whose leadership in orthopaedic oncology has greatly benefited both the profession and the public. As the Director of the Rush Musculoskeletal Oncology Program, Dr. Gitelis has established one of the most renowned sarcoma programs. His contributions expand beyond clinical work into mentorship, where he has guided many future leaders in orthopaedic surgery, ensuring continual growth and evolution in the field. His dedication includes founding Illinois' first tissue bank and advancing collaborative treatment methods.
