Elks National Foundation Awards $4 Million in Scholarships to College Students

Elks National Foundation Scholarships: A Commitment to Future Leaders

The Elks National Foundation has made a significant impact on the educational journeys of 850 high school seniors by awarding more than $3.9 million in scholarships. These scholarships are not merely financial contributions; they are part of a larger commitment to creating a network of supportive peers dedicated to community service.

In a highly competitive selection process, over 21,500 applicants vied for the Most Valuable Student scholarship. The top 20 scholars were awarded $30,000 each, alongside the unique opportunity to attend the Leadership Weekend in Chicago. This event serves to foster connections among the new scholars and to celebrate their achievements.

During the Leadership Weekend, held from May 1-4, students were introduced to their peers and learned about the values upheld by the Elks community. Engaging with both current and former scholars, participants took part in team-building activities and service projects. One student, Hannah Cross from Ponca City, Oklahoma, expressed her gratitude, stating, "The [Leadership] weekend was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. I’m thankful for the chance to meet such incredible students and learn more about my future."

Additionally, the Elks Foundation awarded $4,000 scholarships to 482 runners-up, further extending their commitment to supporting students in need. The Legacy Awards, given to 350 descendants of Elks members, come with an obligation to engage in community service throughout their college years. This unique requirement ensures that these scholars not only receive financial assistance but also give back to the community that supports them. MiKayla Klinger, who was awarded a Legacy scholarship, mentioned, "This recognition means so much to me, representing not just financial support but also the continual encouragement from the Elks to help families and communities like mine."

The Elks National Foundation's dedication goes beyond scholarship funds; it cultivates a culture of service and leadership that encourages young individuals to thrive. Current scholarship recipients will be obligated to perform at least three service engagements over their four years of support, thus reinforcing the Elks' commitment to community and social responsibility.
