A Pioneering Moment for Barrier-Free eSports at EVO Japan 2026
From May 1 to May 3, 2026, the Tokyo Big Sight will host the grand event of the EVO Japan 2026, one of the largest fighting game tournaments globally. This year, the spotlight will shine on five extraordinary barrier-free eSports players sponsored by ePARA, a company dedicated to promoting an inclusive gaming environment. Among the participants are Jeni, NAOYA, and DAIJIROO, who will showcase their skills in the highly competitive Street Fighter 6 category.
Meet the Players
1.
Jeni: A player with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Jeni utilizes a custom controller operated by his chin. Jeni has previously competed at the renowned EVO tournament in Las Vegas and is known for producing the Tohoku region's biggest fighting game event.
2.
DAIJIROO: Living with congenital multiple joint contractures, this player has established a unique gaming strategy by using two Access™ controllers simultaneously with his hands and feet. DAIJIROO has reached a master rank and has also partnered with popular streamers at the online event "Hachief."
3.
NAOYA: A blind eSports warrior, NAOYA leverages the sound accessibility features he helped develop in Street Fighter 6. In 2025, he made history by becoming the first blind Japanese player to attain the master rank. He won his first match at EVO Japan 2025, showing that vision is not a requirement for success.
4.
sasadan5: Another blind player, sasadan5 shares his gaming experiences on YouTube, where he highlights the potential of sound accessibility. His judgment skills and ability to execute accurate combos without visual feedback continue to redefine what is possible in gaming.
5.
