Asagaya Jazz Street 2026: A Celebration of Jazz

Asagaya will become a jazz haven this year as it hosts the 32nd edition of the Asagaya Jazz Street festival, taking place on October 30 (Friday) and 31 (Saturday). This lively event transforms train stations, shopping streets, shrines, churches, and various venues into stages for a rich musical experience. Tickets for the public events will go on sale starting August 24, 2026, with more details to follow on the official website.

Special Highlight: Shinmeigu Session by Yoshihiko Yamashita

One of the standout events this year is the special session at Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine, produced by the esteemed Yoshihiko Yamashita. Known for his profound impact on the jazz scene, Yamashita’s absence due to a hiatus will be a significant moment at the festival. He has entrusted the stage to three remarkable musicians: Sugadai, Kosuke Sakai, and Tamaya Honda. Audiences can anticipate a unique blend of sounds as these artists collaborate for an unforgettable performance.

Returning Acts and Exciting Collaborations

The festival is known for its star-studded lineup, and this year is no exception. The highly sought-after band, Yoshihiko Azuma and The Swinging Boppers, returns for another electrifying performance. The vibrant female big band, Taoyame Orkesuta, will feature guest vocalist Yoshiko Kanou, adding to the excitement. Additionally, watch for Masahiko Kitahara, who has recently branched out from Tokyo Skapara to embrace new musical endeavors.

Notably, American saxophonist Elena Terakubo will also grace the festival, wrapping up her Japan tour with a stunning performance.

Celebrated Musicians Take the Stage

Asagaya Jazz Street boasts a variety of seasoned musicians who will enrich the lineup. Among them are drummer Yoichi Kobayashi performing alongside beloved idol Yuu Hayami, and jazz legends like Yoko Ima and Yoshio Suzuki. The world-renowned guitarist, Yoshiaki Masui, will make an appearance, along with notable jazz vocalist Chika Toyoda. Clarinetists Eiji Taniguchi and Eiichi Hanaoka will perform together as 'The Two EIJIs.' New Spanish duo UNO will also come together with vocalist Naomi Grace for a captivating show.

Other distinguished artists include emotional pianist Iori Kimura, lyricist Kensaku Tanigawa, guitarist Hirofumi Asaba, trombone innovator Satomi Shiga, jazz pianist Kazumi Tateishi, and ukulele jazz expert Kiyoshi Kobayashi. The festival aims to create a platform for these top-tier artists to showcase their talents.

Emerging Young Talent and Family-Friendly Events

The event also highlights the emerging talents who are poised to shape the next generation of jazz. Saxophonist Yuki Nakane, the 8th Chigusa Award winner, will present his group, while Kyoko Sato will join forces with trumpeter Hiroyuki Ishikawa for a septet performance. Young guitar sensation Fumika Asari is also expected to dazzle the audience.

In addition to jazz, there are opportunities for families to enjoy. The popular gospel experience concert will return, led by Bella Morisaki, while families can look forward to the 'Jazz for Kids' concert featuring the a cappella group TRY-TONE on October 31.

A City Transformed into a Jazz Wonderland

Asagaya Jazz Street follows a ticketed public venue system, offering three types of stages: public areas, street performances throughout the town, and variety venues—live houses, cafes, and restaurants—hosting their unique shows.
