Introduction
In recent years, the number of children with school refusal has reached alarming levels, with a record of nearly 350,000 students. Recognizing this critical issue, NIJIN Academy opened its main school in September 2023, which offers online alternative education options for students from the first grade of elementary school to the third year of junior high school. With an enrollment of over 480 nationwide, it provides a platform for interactive learning and connection among peers through a metaverse environment. This innovative approach has received high praise from parents, who report that their children have regained their natural brightness and enthusiasm for learning.
New Campus Opening
As part of its commitment to education, NIJIN Academy is expanding its real-world campuses, now totaling 26 locations, including the newly opened Setagaya Komazawa campus scheduled for June 2025. To celebrate this expansion and introduce new learning options, the academy will host a cooking workshop from June 17 to June 24.
Meet the Head of the Setagaya Komazawa Campus
Shiei Kanno, the head of NIJIN Academy Setagaya Komazawa, brings valuable experience from the food industry and has previously run a children's cooking class called 'Ichie to'. She expresses her passion for creating a space where children can be themselves and grow in a safe environment that respects differences. Kanno believes that through hands-on experiences, children can discover their true selves while learning the importance of collaboration and respect. She invites everyone to come and explore this newly established space.
Workshop Highlights
The cooking workshop, facilitated by 'Ichie to', will allow participants to prepare and take home a delicious summer vegetable gratin, embodying the concept of fresh, wholesome meals. The dish features:
- - An array of vibrant summer vegetables, including eggplants and zucchinis
- - A rich white sauce paired with melted cheese to highlight the natural sweetness of the vegetables
- - A tangy tomato accent to keep the dish light yet flavorful
- - Olive oil and herbs to enhance the dish's aroma, making it perfect for the season.
This nutritious yet satisfying meal is designed to be enjoyed by both children and adults alike.
