SCAD Launches 2025 AI Insights Report
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has recently introduced its 2025 AI Insights Report, a pivotal document crafted by the university's esteemed research branch, SCADask. Founded in 1978, SCAD has been at the forefront of utilizing innovative technologies, equipping its students with the essential tools to pursue successful careers in creative fields. The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) symbolizes another milestone in SCAD's ongoing commitment to design innovation.
As part of the announcement, SCAD hosted the 2025 SCADask AI Summit, inviting influential figures from the design industry, SCAD leadership, faculty, and students. This summit served as a platform for reassessing the role of AI in design education, featuring prominent AI authorities from renowned organizations such as Google, Adobe, and Deloitte. The core message resonating from these discussions emphasized that creativity and humanity persist alongside advancements in technology, regardless of their nature.
Before the summit, SCADask conducted a survey among creative industry leaders to glean insights on AI's influence on their sectors. The findings revealed that AI not only offers substantial operational advantages but also supports growth without undermining job creation. Approximately two-thirds of the leaders noted a reduction in operational costs, alongside an increase in revenue. Significantly, nearly 25% of respondents reported that their teams have welcomed new roles dedicated to AI.
Dan Bartlett, Dean of the School of Animation and Motion at SCAD, articulated a critical perspective on the creative process, stating, "The creative journey is less about mastering an extensive array of technologies or software and more about maintaining flexibility. It centers on having a clear vision or idea and the capacity to manifest it into tangible results rather than being bogged down by the intricate details of execution."
The influence of AI presents limitless prospects for designers across various fields. In a proactive measure, SCAD has initiated the SCAD AI Advantage Portal, designed to aid strategists as they transition AI into their workflows. Additionally, the institution will soon unveil a Bachelor of Design in Applied AI, aimed at equipping students with the knowledge to conceptualize, prototype, and oversee AI systems and their interactions with humanity. To broaden access to this dynamic domain, SCAD will also introduce a minor in Applied AI available to all students, empowering creative professionals from diverse disciplines with the necessary skills for incorporating intelligent technologies into their careers.
The 2025 AI Insights Report not only highlights groundbreaking applications of AI in student and alumni projects but also emphasizes the importance of cultivating fundamental design principles to effectively utilize AI in creating high-quality outputs.
