Historic Achievement for MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy
In a groundbreaking moment for the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy Inc. (MMMA), two students have been honored as part of the Ten Outstanding Maritime Students of the Philippines (TOMSP), making them the first from a Japanese shipping company's maritime school to receive this distinction. The recognition took place on September 28 in Quezon City, Metro Manila, and highlights MMMA’s commitment to fostering exceptional talent in the maritime industry.
The students, a female from the Navigation Department, Ms. Princess Dianna Marrey B. David, and a male from the Engineering Department, Mr. Kurt Neo G. Dizon, stood out among their peers from approximately 80 maritime universities across the Philippines. This annual commendation, supported by the Philippines' Maritime Industry Authority and other organizations, assesses candidates based on leadership capabilities, excellence in studies, and resilience amidst challenging backgrounds.
During the selection process, MMMA’s representatives participated in leadership workshops, examinations, and interviews. Their remarkable journeys have underscored not only the importance of leadership in the maritime field but also the capacity to overcome adversity, thus showcasing the skills and tenacity vital for future leaders in the sector. Their award follows last year’s impressive achievement, where MMMA was ranked second nationally in the Maritime Schools Assessment Program (MSAP). This successive success emphasizes the quality of education and student support provided at MMMA.
The MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy, established in partnership with Magsaysay Maritime Corporation, focuses on developing future leaders in the maritime industry, actively contributing to sustainable initiatives. The institution believes in nurturing individual potentials through coaching, ensuring that students are not only equipped for academic success but also prepared for meaningful contributions in their careers.
Located in Dasmariñas City, Cavite—approximately 30 km south of Manila—MMMA is a four-year degree, fully residential maritime academy catering to a maximum of 300 students annually across its Navigation and Engineering programs. Since its inception in August 2018, the academy has been dedicated to providing a comprehensive maritime education that emphasizes safety, operational integrity, and the cultivation of local communities.
As the company moves forward, integrating its sustainability objectives with workforce development, shipboard job creation remains a priority. MOL Magsaysay is committed to nurturing capable seafarers who will uphold the standards of operational safety and reliability, thereby supporting the daily lives of people and the infrastructure essential for communities.
This recognition of MMMA’s students is not just a win for the individuals but a significant milestone for the institution, solidifying its role as a prominent educator in the maritime landscape of the Philippines. The commitment to fostering resilience, leadership, and communication skills ensures that they are well-prepared for the future challenges of the maritime industry.
Through continuous development initiatives and partnerships, MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy looks forward to further cultivating talents who are not only skilled but also socially responsible, thereby shaping the future of maritime education and the broader industry landscape.
