Thailand's Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is gearing up to present the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025, an anticipated event that will highlight the country's vibrant culture and celebrations. Scheduled from April 11 to 15, 2025, at Sanam Luang in Bangkok, this festival is not only the centerpiece of Thailand's New Year festivities, but also represents a significant milestone in the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025 campaign.

Building on Heritage and Global Recognition

This year's festival takes on added importance following the recent recognition of the traditional Thai New Year festival, Songkran, as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Jakkaphon Tangsutthitham, expressed the event's significance in promoting Thai identity and cultural richness, urging visitors to explore Thailand's diverse landscapes—from bustling cities to serene hidden corners.

A major highlight will be the Maha Songkran Parade, featuring eight themed processions that celebrate Thailand’s creativity and rich heritage. On April 12, the parade will set off from the Democracy Monument, making its way to Sanam Luang, with another procession scheduled for April 13.

A Multi-Zone Experience

The festival promises a multi-zone experience at Sanam Luang, featuring:
  • - Five distinct regional Songkran zones, showcasing the unique cultural elements from various parts of Thailand.
  • - “5 Must Do in Thailand” cultural activities, promoting key experiences that visitors should not miss.
  • - A lively Thai fair that boasts attractions like a haunted house, Ferris wheel, and sand pagoda building competition.
  • - Traditional rituals, engaging water play activities, spectacular sound-and-light shows, plus electrifying EDM performances.
  • - Over 100 booths featuring an array of food and crafts, offering visitors a taste of Thailand's culinary delights and artisan skills.

In addition, music enthusiasts can look forward to nightly concerts headlined by popular Thai artists including Bodyslam, Polycat, Jeff Satur, The Toys, Joey Boy, and Carabao, ensuring a festive atmosphere throughout the event.

Commitment to Sustainability

In line with Thailand’s commitment to sustainable tourism, the festival will introduce the GCYOU-TURN initiative aimed at responsible waste management through plastic recycling and upcycling. TAT is also launching a Maha Songkran World Water Festival mobile app providing real-time updates, maps, and performance schedules to enhance visitor experiences.

To ensure safety and convenience, the Tourist Police Bureau will be offering support in eight languages, armed with a smartphone app featuring an SOS function and GPS tracking to help tourists in need.
