Universal Event Tokyo 2025: A Step Towards Inclusivity

On April 29, 2025, a landmark event known as the Universal Event Tokyo 2025 took place at the Den'enchofu Seseragi-kan in Ota City, Japan. Hosted by the social business community Waccel, led by Yoshihiro Shimamura and producer Tomohiro Sumitani, this event marked its fifth installment and aimed to promote a barrier-free community where everyone can thrive regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ability.

What is the Universal Event?

The Universal Event is designed to foster an inclusive society where people can connect and enjoy activities together. Its previous editions, starting from the first one held in Miyazaki in 2022, have successfully provided a platform for diverse individuals to interact, learn from one another, and build mutual understanding. In total, over 1,500 participants attended this year, comprised of persons with disabilities, active seniors and their families, healthcare professionals, university students, and children.

This year's overarching theme was based on the upcoming Deaflympics, which will take place in Japan for the first time in November. The event featured discussion panels with representatives from the Deaflympics as special guests, as well as experiences in Deaf sports. The aim was not only to entertain but to nurture a society filled with hope and opportunities for participation.
