The company recently announced the launch of the 2026 Water and Environment Grant Program through the American Water Charitable Foundation. This initiative encourages community organizations to apply for grants aimed at promoting clean water, conservation efforts, environmental education, climate resilience, and water-based recreational projects.

Grant Impact

Erin Abercrombie, District Vice President at Gateway Region YMCA, expressed gratitude for the support received in 2025 through a similar grant. “The funding allowed us to provide swimming lessons to 75 youths, many of whom were non-swimmers, and offered free Safety Around Water programs. This initiative helps build essential skills and confidence among children, addressing the critical issue of drowning, which is the second leading cause of accidental death among children under 14.” This comment highlights the profound impact such grants have within local communities.

In 2025, the American Water Charitable Foundation awarded $1.7 million across 80 organizations in 12 states, which includes a notable contribution to 11 organizations in Illinois. Some of these recipients include:
