Marin Sanitary Service Welcomes New Board Chair and Member to Strengthen Commitment to Sustainability
Leadership Changes at Marin Sanitary Service
Marin Sanitary Service (MSS), a key player in recycling and waste management in North Bay, is making strides in its governance with the appointment of Dave Garbarino as the new board chairman and Allen Garbarino as a board member. This move underscores the company’s dedication to its family-owned legacy and commitment to sustainability within the community.
New Leadership Roles
Dave Garbarino has been an integral part of MSS since 2006. Growing up in the family business, he started working alongside his father at a tender age of five. "I grew up in the business," he reflects, noting the hands-on experience that shaped his career. After serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War, Dave returned to MSS, where he witnessed the company’s evolution over the decades.
Proudly mentioning that his sons now follow in his footsteps, as Rich Garbarino serves as Route Manager and David Garbarino as Fleet Manager, he expressed pride in his family's positive environmental contributions across Marin, Napa, and Sonoma counties. This familial involvement continues to strengthen the values MSS embodies as a community-oriented business.
The Legacy of Allen Garbarino
Joining the board alongside his brother as a new member is Allen Garbarino. His journey in the business began at a young age as well, fondly recalling riding along with their father during routes. "I loved to go to work with my dad," he reminisces, showcasing the deep familial ties present within the company.
Allen’s professional journey led him to a successful career as a firefighter before he retired and took a driving role at MSS for the past two decades. His diverse experiences bring valuable perspectives to the board. He shared his excitement about joining the governance of MSS, stating, "I am honored and excited to be a member of the board of directors and keep an incredible family heritage going for future generations."
Continuing the Family Heritage
The involvement of both Garbarino brothers reflects MSS's dedication to maintaining its foundation while evolving to meet contemporary challenges in waste management and sustainability. Patty Garbarino, the president of MSS, and existing board members Roger Williams and Ronald Fornesi will support the new leadership, ensuring the company’s values are upheld while adapting to future demands.
With these strategic changes, MSS aims not only to sustain its operational success but also to enhance its impact on the environment and the community it serves. The story of the Garbarino family in the waste management industry is one of legacy, resilience, and ongoing commitment to their community.
As MSS progresses under this new leadership, it promises to uphold its responsibilities as a leading waste solutions provider while further reinforcing its identity as a family-run operation. The dedication of the Garbarinos to environmentally responsible practices will undoubtedly be pivotal in shaping the company’s future.
Moving forward, consumers and stakeholders can expect to see MSS continuing its mission of providing innovative waste solutions that positively impact our region, all while rooted in a rich family tradition that celebrates both community and sustainability.
