Lucy Hale Joins the UN World Food Programme as Global Goodwill Ambassador

Lucy Hale Takes on Role as WFP's Goodwill Ambassador

In a significant announcement, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) appointed renowned actress and producer Lucy Hale as their newest global Goodwill Ambassador. Hale, who rose to fame through her leading role in the hit series Pretty Little Liars, is now using her platform to advocate for the over 318 million people suffering from extreme hunger worldwide.

Coming from a background that combines the rural roots of Tennessee—where her father was a farmer—with the compassionate calling of a nurse, Hale is particularly passionate about advocating for women and children, food security, and the education and health of young people.

Hale expressed her deep commitment to this role, stating, "It is the honour of a lifetime to become a WFP Goodwill Ambassador. It has long been my dream to give back in this way, and I am eager to shine a spotlight on WFP's critical work to save and change lives around the world. I firmly believe in the power each of us has to spark change in the world, and my hope is that others will join me in taking action to create a world free from hunger."

Since 2024, Hale has actively been involved in raising awareness and generating support for WFP's initiatives aimed at combating hunger. Her efforts have particularly focused on areas that have been severely affected, such as Sudan, Gaza, Myanmar, and Ukraine, raising crucial funds that provide lifesaving assistance to communities in need. In a time marked by a global hunger crisis and dwindling humanitarian resources, Hale aims to leverage her influence to bolster support for WFP’s vital work.

Cindy McCain, the Executive Director of the World Food Programme, welcomed Hale's involvement, saying: "I am delighted to welcome Lucy Hale as a WFP Goodwill Ambassador. In a world where so many people go to bed hungry, we are fortunate to have someone as passionate and committed as Lucy partnering with us. Her voice will elevate attention to people and places too often overlooked—and help drive the action needed to reach them."

Hale joins an impressive lineup of WFP Goodwill Ambassadors, which includes other high-profile figures like Kate Hudson, Michael Kors, and even global sports icons like Son Heung-Min. Together, they share the common goal of raising awareness about hunger and supporting the efforts of WFP to alleviate this suffering.

The WFP, known as the world’s largest humanitarian organization, is focused on saving lives in emergencies and employs food assistance to forge paths toward peace, stability, and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impacts of climate change. With prominent ambassadors like Hale on board, they hope to shine a brighter light on their initiatives, helping to ensure that no one is left behind.

As Hale steps into this pivotal role, her journey marks a new chapter in her career where she transitions from acting to activism. By engaging her global fanbase in the fight against hunger, she embodies the notion that everyone has the power to contribute to global change. With the support of influential figures and organizations like WFP, there lies a considerable potential for driving impactful change in the world. Hale's new role not only emphasizes her commitment to humanitarian efforts but also invites others to join her in this noble cause, reinforcing the belief that collective action can pave the way for a hunger-free future.
