Ferrovial Awarded Major Contract for I-285 East Express Lanes in Atlanta

Ferrovial to Lead the I-285 East Express Lanes Project in Atlanta

In a significant development for Georgia's transportation network, Ferrovial, a prominent global infrastructure firm, has been chosen to lead the I-285 East Express Lanes initiative in Greater Atlanta. This project, under a public-private partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the State Road and Tollway Authority, boasts an estimated construction value of $8.9 billion.

Ignacio Madridejos, the CEO of Ferrovial, expressed pride in this new venture, stating, "The I-285 East Express Lanes marks our first managed lanes project in Georgia, and an important milestone for Ferrovial in a state where we have been present for over a decade." He emphasized the importance of this project in enhancing regional connectivity while fostering economic growth. The project is designed to meet the rising demands for better transportation options in the densely populated Atlanta metropolitan area.

The first phase of the I-285 East Express Lanes will stretch approximately 21 miles and will strategically connect major highways, including I-285, I-85, and SR 400. This integration aims to expand travel choices for commuters, ensuring more reliable trip times by linking with Georgia’s expanding express-lane infrastructure.

In collaboration with Tikehau Star Infra, the Ferrovial-led consortium will oversee not just construction but also the financing, operation, and maintenance of this project as part of a long-term agreement. GDOT has also committed to collaborating closely with the Top End Mobility Group to facilitate the smooth progression of future project phases. Once fully realized, the project will feature about 37.5 miles of new express lanes in both directions, offering vital connections to key business, employment, and residential areas across Fulton and DeKalb counties.

Ferrovial brings a wealth of experience to this project, having successfully implemented express lanes in other major U.S. cities, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, and Washington, D.C. This expertise is expected to deliver substantial mobility benefits and contribute to the ongoing development of Greater Atlanta's infrastructure.

As Ferrovial continues to advance its initiatives in North America, it solidifies its position as a leader in tackling significant transportation challenges through innovative project management and execution. The company actively seeks to deliver complex infrastructure projects that are vital for improving mobility and supporting economic growth, marking a new chapter for transportation in Atlanta.

In conclusion, the I-285 East Express Lanes project not only serves as a testament to Ferrovial’s capabilities but also represents a pivotal step towards the enhancement of Atlanta’s transportation network. The collaboration among public and private entities emphasizes a commitment to not only improving infrastructure but also providing long-term value to the communities they serve.

Whether viewed as a local initiative or as part of a nationwide endeavor to modernize transportation systems, the successful execution of this project will have lasting impacts on the mobility and economy of the region.

Ferrovial’s ongoing dedication to sustainable and efficient project delivery will play a crucial role in shaping the future landscape of infrastructure in Georgia, ultimately benefiting the residents and businesses within this vibrant metropolitan area.
