On November 14, 2025, Johannesburg, South Africa hosted a pivotal cultural exchange session during the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum, known as the Hunan-Africa Dialogue. This event brought together cultural officials, media representatives, executives from cultural enterprises, and think tank experts from both China and Africa. The central focus was on exploring innovative avenues for cultural exchanges and collaboration between these two regions.

Zhao Chengxin, the Director-General of the Information Office of the Hunan Provincial People's Government, emphasized the significance of the bond between Hunan province and Africa. He articulated that the deep-rooted cultural resonance forms a fertile ground for cooperation. His words highlighted the shared values and histories that underpin the relationships between the two regions.

The dialogue was marked by insights from various speakers, including Siafa G. Sheriff, the President of the Liberia-China Friendship Organization. Sheriff pointed out the essential role that the integration of Chinese and African cultures plays in fostering a more harmonious global civilization. He underscored that the exchange is not merely about culture, but rather about constructing a more inclusive world order that respects diversity and promotes mutual understanding.

One of the event’s highlights was the announcement of significant achievements from various think tanks. Collaborative research findings were unveiled by notable institutions, including the China Economic Information Service (CEIS) under Xinhua News Agency, Central South University, Hunan University, Xiangtan University, Hunan Agricultural University, and the China-Africa Economic and Trade Promotion Council. These findings reflect the progressing cooperation and ongoing dialogue surrounding economic and cultural interactions between Hunan and Africa.

The CEIS Shanghai Headquarters presented a comprehensive report detailing Hunan's endeavors in economic and trade cooperation with Africa. Wan Fangming, the Director of the Hunan Center of CEIS, reiterated Hunan's commitment to being a trailblazer in China-Africa cooperation. He expressed optimism that Hunan's experiences would serve as valuable references for fostering deeper connections between the regions.

The event acted as a platform for participants to showcase achievements, share their experiences, and outline a clear direction for future collaborations. By emphasizing the importance of cultural ties and people-to-people connections, the dialogue works towards ensuring that the partnership between China and Africa continues to flourish in the years to come.

In conclusion, the Hunan-Africa Dialogue signals a promising step forward in the ongoing journey of cultural exchange and cooperation between two regions rich in heritage.
