Ardbeg House: A Unique Boutique Hotel Experience in Islay
In September 2025, the highly anticipated Ardbeg House will open its doors on Islay island, delivering a singular hospitality experience from the famous Ardbeg whisky distillery. Managed by MHD Moët Hennessy Diageo, this boutique hotel aims to offer enthusiasts an immersive journey into the smoky world of Ardbeg whisky, alongside creative culinary delights.
Founded in 1815, Ardbeg has developed into a cult favorite since it resumed operations in 1997. The distillery attracts thousands of fans, known as "Ardbeggians," each year, demonstrating its enduring popularity. Ardbeg House will enhance this experience by inviting visitors into a vibrant atmosphere filled with unique offerings designed to stimulate the senses.
An Artistic Collaboration
Designed in collaboration with the London-based interior design studio Russell Sage Studio, Ardbeg House will exhibit a variety of artworks from skilled artisans native to Scotland and Islay. The hotel comprises 12 distinctive guest rooms, each featuring playful and sophisticated designs—like copper wall art crafted from actual pot stills, custom boat-shaped chandeliers, and a secret “Press for Smoke” button that reveals a hidden whisky pour.
Within the premises lies a restaurant and bar that provide a sensory delight, emphasizing Ardbeg's dedication to quality. Guests, including local residents, can indulge in Scottish cuisine and drinks that have been specially crafted with the essence of Ardbeg. At the heart of the signature restaurant, the "Flame Table" offers a selection of dishes made from local ingredients and hosts a weekly event named "Shortie's Table" in honor of Ardbeg's beloved mascot dog. Here, guests can connect and share enjoyable moments together.
Exclusive Offerings at the Islay Bar
Ardbeg House will also feature the Islay Bar, which offers an extensive collection of rare Ardbeg expressions. Among these is the exclusive Ardbeg House Reserve, a limited edition 21-year-old single malt whisky matured in a bourbon and oloroso sherry cask, bottled at cask strength. With only 800 bottles produced, each adorned with its unique serial number, it represents the peak of Ardbeg's identity—featuring oceanic notes, a smoky undertone, and hints of ripe figs.
Furthermore, the Ardbeg Homecoming presents a special bottling aimed at those who visit Islay, enriching the experience with its tropical aromas from additional aging in rum casks. This delightful whisky combines layers of spice and classic peat, offering an unforgettable taste.
Another standout offering is the Ardbeg Badger Juice, a limited edition whisky only available by the glass at the Islay Bar. Crafted by Master Blender Jillian McDonald, this elusive treasure is revealed each evening at 6:15 PM—an homage to Ardbeg's founding year, 1815—embodying a special moment in every sip.
