Understanding the Real Implementation of SCS Evaluation: Free Webinar by BFT

Join the Free Webinar on SCS Evaluation Implementation

In September 2026, BFT Corporation, based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, will host a free webinar titled "How Many Man-Days Does SCS★3 Implementation Take? - Understanding the Realities of Implementation in 45 Minutes". This session is part of BFT's IT All-Inclusive Support Service, YOROZU, aimed at professionals in companies considering how to address the new SCS Evaluation System initiated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan.

This upcoming webinar is a follow-up to the webinar held in August 2026, which provided a foundational understanding of the SCS Evaluation System. The upcoming session focuses on what happens next, diving into practicalities like regulation development, ledger management, and technical measures. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the metrics required for implementation, common challenges, and criteria for deciding whether to proceed internally or seek external support, all grounded in foundational information provided by the relevant authorities.

Background of the Webinar

The SCS Evaluation System is designed to make security measures across the supply chain visible and is currently being developed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry. Companies will be rated based on their security measures with three different grades — ★3, ★4, and ★5, where ★3 represents the minimum requirements that companies must fulfill.

According to information published by the IPA, operational implementation for grades ★3 and ★4 is scheduled to start around March 2027, with additional information regarding application processes and requirements expected to be released around October 2026. Since expert validation and signatures will be mandatory for grade ★3, companies will effectively have a two-month window in early 2027 (January to March) to complete this verification, which highlights the importance of taking proactive measures ahead of time.

While companies are becoming increasingly aware of the existence and outline of the system, specific details regarding the labor and time investment required for compliance still need to be adequately shared. This is where BFT sees an opportunity: as the evaluation guide is expected to be released in October 2026, this could serve as a critical trigger for companies to begin mobilizing their efforts in preparation for compliance.

Features of the Webinar

This upcoming session narrows its focus from overall understanding to specific actions companies should take to advance their compliance efforts:

  • - Concrete Labor Estimates: Participants will receive practical guidelines on the labor involved in regulation development, ledger management, and technical measures. Models created by BFT will be shared visually to enhance understanding.

  • - Common Pitfalls: The session will explore typical points of difficulty that companies may encounter during the implementation process through specific scenarios.

  • - Internal vs. External Support Decision Criteria: Attendees will learn how to evaluate whether internal resources or external support makes more sense based on criteria such as labor, time, and risk factors.

  • - Post-Implementation Support: The need for yearly updates and what that entails for maintaining the grade ★3 status will also be discussed, ensuring participants are equipped for the long term.

Additionally, the latter part of the webinar will introduce BFT’s services, including the "YOROZU SCS Evaluation" for diagnostics, support during implementation, and assistance with operations and updates post-acquisition of the certification.
