Timee Partners with JA ZEN-NO EHIME to Address Labor Shortages in Agriculture

Timee and JA ZEN-NO EHIME Partnership

Timee, a company that provides on-demand work services, has recently entered into a partnership agreement with JA ZEN-NO EHIME, an agricultural cooperative based in Ehime prefecture, Japan. This collaboration marks the first formal partnership between Timee and a prefectural headquarters of JA ZEN-NO in the Shikoku region. The move aims to address critical labor shortages in Japan’s agricultural sector, which has been exacerbated by a declining and aging workforce.

The Growing Need for Agricultural Workers

Japan’s agricultural workforce has seen a drastic decline over the past two decades, with foundational agricultural workers reducing from 2.4 million in 2000 to approximately 1.114 million in 2024. Alarmingly, the average age of core agricultural workers is now 69.2 years, with 71.7% of these workers aged 65 or older. As of 2024, the number of core workers aged 49 and below stands at just 125,000, which constitutes only 11.2% of the total workforce. This demographic trend highlights the pressing need for innovative solutions aimed at attracting younger individuals into the agricultural industry, particularly in regions like Ehime, where the agricultural sector plays a vital role in the local economy.

The Collaboration Details

To combat the issue of labor shortages in agriculture, Timee and JA ZEN-NO EHIME have initiated a strategic partnership that will enhance the availability of on-demand labor in key facilities across Ehime. Under this agreement, JA ZEN-NO will serve as the primary contact, connecting local agricultural producers with Timee's workforce solutions to facilitate on-the-spot work opportunities that are essential during peak agricultural seasons.

Furthermore, this partnership will also focus on providing comprehensive support to agricultural producers in accepting spot workers. As part of their initiative, the two entities will develop tailored operational manuals, which will include guidelines for labor involving various crops produced in Ehime, such as citrus fruits and vegetables. The goal is to create a seamless and efficient onboarding process for spot workers, ensuring that both producers and workers can engage in a mutually beneficial arrangement.

A Commitment to Agricultural Innovation

Timee’s mission, “to create infrastructure that broadens the possibilities of life through work,” aligns with its collaboration with JA ZEN-NO EHIME. Together, they are devoted to finding solutions to the pressing issues facing the agricultural sector in Ehime. This partnership represents a significant step toward not only addressing immediate labor shortages but also fostering connections with the next generation of agricultural talent who will play a crucial role in sustaining Japan’s agricultural legacy.

The collaboration aims to transform the landscape of agricultural work in the region while also preserving the traditions and practices crucial to Ehime’s farming heritage.
