The Heart of Noto: Reviving the Spirit through Music
Spice Factory Inc., headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, is excited to announce its sponsorship of the upcoming Darabochi Music Festival, set to take place on May 16, 2026, in Noto Town, Ishikawa Prefecture. This initiative is part of a collective effort from various entities within the Spice Family, which includes Ginger Lab, Infopoint, and Flying Penguins. Together, they aim to support and celebrate the local culture, fostering connections among residents as they navigate the ongoing recovery from the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
A Journey of Resilience
Two years have passed since the devastating Noto Peninsula earthquake that struck on January 1, 2024. The news coverage has dwindled, and many may have moved on from the disaster in their daily lives. However, in Noto, the road to recovery is far from over. The population of the affected area, which includes Wajima City, Suzu City, Noto Town, and Anamizu Town, has decreased by approximately 14%, dropping from about 58,000. The government has demolished around 28,000 structures that were damaged, fundamentally altering the region's landscape. Amid this ongoing challenge, the question arises: How can we preserve the community's culture and livelihood when mere assistance is not enough?
What is the Darabochi Music Festival?
The term 'Darabochi' captures the Noto spirit—it describes people who, while perhaps not the most adept, strive to live truthfully and earnestly. The Darabochi Music Festival is a grassroots event organized primarily by locals, aiming not only for restoration and support but also to create new reasons for visitors to come to Noto. By intertwining music, traditional arts, and food culture, this initiative seeks to ignite the flames of revival from within the community. Notable artists connected to Noto, including THA BLUE HERB, will participate, along with local traditional performances like the Yae Taiko, a drumming tradition that boasts a history of around 400 years.
