Yuk Slyvka: A Journey from Ukraine to Entrepreneurial Success
In an inspiring tale of resilience and determination, Yuk Slyvka, the founder and president of Plum ProExteriors, is making headlines as a finalist for the 2026 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® awards in New England. His story is a remarkable one, filled with hardship, grit, and an unwavering commitment to his craft and community.
A Rough Beginning
Yuk Slyvka's journey began in Ivanivtsi, a humble village in the Chernivetska region of Ukraine, where he grew up amidst tough living conditions. His childhood was marked by the absence of running water in his home, making daily life a challenge. Despite this, Yuk demonstrated early leadership qualities; as a teenager, he provided clean drinking water to local families, highlighting his innate desire to help others.
His life took a dramatic turn when he won the U.S. Diversity Visa Lottery. However, this opportunity came with a daunting obstacle. The Russian mob preempted his victory, applying for the lottery in his name and holding the code hostage. In a desperate bid for freedom, Yuk sold his water bubblers, took out loans from friends, and paid off the mob. His journey to America began under a cloud of debt, a testament to his tenacity and resourcefulness.
Building a Legacy
Once in the U.S., life wasn't handed to Yuk on a silver platter. He started as a laborer at a siding and exterior renovation company, dedicating himself to hard work with no prior connections. Over eight years, he transformed his single-man operation into Plum ProExteriors, a full-service exterior renovation company serving a wide array of clients across New England.
Since its inception, Plum ProExteriors has completed over 500 projects, gained recognition for its quality service, and employed more than 150 individuals. The company has earned a stellar reputation with a 5-star rating across major review platforms. Additionally, Plum ProExteriors holds prestigious certifications from industry-leading manufacturers, including James Hardie, Andersen, and GAF, marking it as one of the elite contractors in the region.
A Digital Influence
Yuk’s influence extends beyond the physical realm of construction. Plum ProExteriors boasts one of the largest organic social media followings among exterior contractors in New England, with viral videos reaching millions of viewers. The company's approach to digital engagement exemplifies Yuk's belief in connecting with the community through shared narratives and project transformations.
The EY Selection Process
Securing a spot as an EY finalist involves stringent vetting. Plum ProExteriors underwent a comprehensive review of its financial records and participated in several rounds of interviews with the EY judging panel. This rigorous process ensures that only the deserving candidates earn nominations, emphasizing the integrity and prestige of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® program.
Looking Ahead
Now, at the age of 31, Yuk Slyvka is not only a successful entrepreneur but also a devoted family man. He has brought his family to the United States, ensuring they share the same opportunities he fought hard to attain. Yuk's story serves as a powerful reminder of the American Dream and the profound impact of perseverance.
As Plum ProExteriors prepares to attend the EY awards gala in Boston on June 16, 2026, Yuk expresses his gratitude: "Being nominated for EY Entrepreneur Of The Year is a powerful reminder of how far this journey from Ukraine has come. I've always believed real leadership means building something bigger than yourself — supporting your team, serving your community, and sharing your own jacket in the rain, even if you get wet."
