Experience the Enchanting Yōkai Parade in Asakusa This April

Immerse Yourself in the Enchanting World of Yōkai

On April 4th, get ready to lose yourself in a mesmerizing spectacle at the Asakusa Yōkai Parade, presented by the Moving Yōkai Exhibition TOKYO. This unique event is part of the Asakusa Cherry Blossom Festival and promises to transport attendees into a fantastical realm filled with Japan's mythical creatures, known as yōkai.

The Moving Yōkai Exhibition TOKYO, curated by HITOHATA, INC., is not only an art exhibition but a pioneering immersive art experience. Running from March 27 to June 28, 2026, at Terada Warehouse G1 Building in Shinagawa, this exhibition celebrates Japan's rich yōkai heritage with a blend of traditional art and cutting-edge technology. Visitors will have the chance to witness familiar creatures from stories and folklore come to life through 3D animation, projection mapping, and holograms.

A Parade of Legends

The Asakusa Yōkai Parade will kick off around 5 PM, beginning near the bustling streets of Asakusa Rokku. This event is a nod to the traditional Hyakki Yagyō, where yōkai are believed to parade through the streets at night. Attendees can expect a vibrant procession featuring approximately 100 yōkai, many of whom will be greeting and interacting with the crowd throughout the event.

A unique feature of the parade is the biyōka player, who will perform enchanting melodies from a rikshaw, leading the procession in a magical atmosphere. It will provide an excellent opportunity for spectators to capture incredible photos and videos, showcasing the essence of Japanese folklore right in the heart of Asakusa. The event promises an otherworldly experience, inviting attendees to engage in the rich cultural tapestry surrounding yōkai lore.

Collaborations and Experience

During this event, HITOHATA, INC. is collaborating with the fragrance brand BATAKOU to enhance the sensory experience. Attendees can enjoy a unique scent reminiscent of cherry blossoms, heightening the fantasy of the yōkai celebration and creating an immersive atmosphere for all participants.

In conjunction with the parade, Asakusa Rokku’s SAKURA STREET will showcase street performances featuring geisha and ninja acts among 180 meters of beautiful cherry trees. This blending of traditional performance art with modern immersive experiences encapsulates the spirit of Japanese culture, drawing in both locals and tourists alike.

While viewing the parade is entirely free, participation in the procession is limited to pre-registered individuals. This has already reached capacity, but the parade offers a perfect opportunity for spontaneous enjoyment of the festive atmosphere along the sidelines. It is recommended for spectators to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot.
