An Exclusive Interview with Miyuu Tomita

In the vibrant landscape of anime, voice actress Miyuu Tomita stands out for her ability to bring characters to life with unique depth and charisma. Currently, she is captivating fans with her roles as Mirabelle in "The Cheat Magician: A Carefree Second Life" and Rin Sudo in "Salted Response from Sato-san to Me Alone." In a recent interview with J:magazine!, Miyuu shared insights into her career, her characters, and what it's like to work on unconventional projects.

About Her Upcoming Role in "The Cheat Magician"

Starting in October 2026, Tomita will voice Mirabelle, a character shaped by an unusual upbringing as an assassin. Reflecting on her experience, she stated, "This isn’t your typical storyline; it has an offbeat energy that defies ordinary anime conventions." It's this freshness that drew her to the character.

She illustrated the uniqueness of the project, saying, "When I first watched the finished product, I thought, ‘This is interesting, but what exactly is happening in this 30 minutes?’" The comedic yet profound tone within the series allows for creative freedom that other projects don’t often offer.

Miyuu enjoyed exploring her character’s depth, noting, "Mirabelle represents an ordinary person amidst the chaos. She grapples with personal themes of growth and overcoming toxic familial influences while maintaining a blend of humor and seriousness in her performance."

The Audition Process

Tomita recounted her audition process, which she described as already hinting at the project's eccentric nature. "During the auditions, I had to participate in a bizarre challenge where I simply had to laugh until instructed otherwise. At that moment, I was bewildered but later realized this was an essential part of understanding Mirabelle's character."

About Mirabelle and Her Unique Background

As the daughter of an assassin, Tomita explained that Mirabelle stands out as one of the few characters with some common sense in an otherwise absurd narrative. The conflict between her serious background and the lighter aspects of the storyline presents numerous opportunities for Tomita to flex her acting range.

She elaborated on her character’s complexity, saying, "Mirabelle’s journey not only revolves around her experiences within the bizarre world she inhabits but also represents her fight against her toxic upbringing as mentored by her mother, ‘The Assassinator.’" This interplay between comical and heavy themes provided a rich canvas for her performance.

Introduction of Renowned Co-star

Tomita also expressed excitement about working alongside Rie Shibata, who plays the daunting role of Mirabelle’s mother. "The casting decision created massive buzz online, and witnessing her live in the studio was a treat! Rie's performance encapsulated both the charm and absurdity we aimed for, and I hope viewers enjoy this dynamic as much as we did in the studio."
